Into the enchanted forest we go... While visiting Egmont National Park, we decided to explore some new areas including this trail called the Enchanted Track. How insane is this moss-covered tree?!! If fairies exist, they definitely live here. ♥️
“Never go in search of love, go in search of life, and life will find you the love you seek.” - @atticuspoetry Teaching our little Lia bean to chase big dreams, big mountains and big ambitions in the best possible way. Our road might not be full of fancy things, but as long as it’s full of love, experience and nature, I think we’ll do just fine. PSA: Always be extra cautious when taking road shots. This snap was at sunrise on a country road with almost no cars. We could see far in each direction and only stood in this spot for seconds.

Anyone else guilty of planning your next holiday before you even take off for your upcoming one? My wanderlust heart seems to always have one or two trips in the works. So where are we off to after our big States adventure? To MEXICO! We’ll be celebrating our friends’ wedding in beautiful Riviera Cancun, then off to chase azul-colored waters and enchanting cenotes. Next step in the planning stage is searching for the perfect place to stay. I’m thinking a house with a pool or an oceanfront apartment and thanks to @bookingcom, it will be easy to find our dream spot. While we stuff our faces with tacos on the beach, you could be doing the same by booking your own homestay and getting a 40 NZD kickback on Booking.com. This funny little bunny is soooo close to walking and this Mama is not ready for it. One of the best parts of motherhood is watching your little one reach new milestones. We encourage, clap and cheer for her and when we say good job, she claps for herself. So this is just a little reminder to make sure you’re rooting for your own team. Celebrate your personal wins regardless how small they are, take a second to appreciate yourself and what you’ve accomplished even if it’s just putting away last weeks laundry. Here’s to you.
We are one month away from our next big holiday! Not only are we celebrating my best friend’s wedding and reuniting with family and friends, we are off to explore a new state and National Park. To find a home away from home, we are in search of the perfect place to stay in Wyoming with the help of @Bookingcom. Did you know you can search homes and apartments, choosing places to suit your needs? With our Lia bean we love having access to a kitchen to cook homemade meals and a separate bedroom so we can all get the sleep we need. Are you planning your next getaway? Forever running to the mountains where happiness comes easy and every breath makes me feel grateful. ♥️
For the last few months, we’ve been trying to plan a trip to the dramatic, moody Mount Taranaki. When a window of clear weather and schedules opened up, we didn’t hesitate to hop in the car and drive up to Egmont National Park. Our trip was short, but oh so worth it. On this night we hiked up to the everso popular Pouakai Tarns where we were met with a massive cloud covering our beloved peak. We stuck around, did some cloud-shifting dance moves, and just as the final light set behind us, the cloud lowered to reveal this captivating peak. Thanks Mr. Taranaki for coming out to play, we love you so. ♥️

Sometimes you just need to go to the end of the earth to feel alive again. Although @Ryan_Domenico, Lia and I seem to travel more than most people, the last few months we’ve been yearning to run to the mountains, yet work and weather always seem to get in the way. So one gray day in Welly we decided to hop in the van and spend a few hours in one of our favorite places on the North Island. All I needed was a few minutes with the wild sea and jagged cliffs to feel the power of Mother Nature and that adrenaline rush of standing on the edge of the world to fill my soul.
The life of an expat, like any life, has its ups and downs. We are so fortunate to live in such an incredible country, but at the same time we are so far from our families and friends. In our case, our future here isn’t guaranteed. We live in a weird limbo knowing we want to raise our daughter in New Zealand, yet we aren’t sure if we’ll be here forever. And as great as FaceTime is, our families watching our daughter grow through screens is less than ideal for both parties. It’s a life of uncertainty, wondering if we’re making the best choices for ourselves and our daughter. It’s a life of terribly missing our loved ones and waiting for the day for someone to invent teleportation. It’s a life I never saw for myself growing up, yet I believe we are here for a reason. I’ve watched the person I love, blossom into an exceptionally talented photographer, and I’ve finally filled the role I’ve always dreamed of becoming, a mother to our loving little bean. Sometimes I have no freaking clue if we’re doing things right, but hey, does anybody really know? I think the most important thing about our time on this earth is making sure to live your life the way you want. To own it. Remember YOU own your life, nobody else and especially not your boss. Value your happiness and your life experiences more than the numbers in your bank account. And to wrap up this jumbled attempt at life advice, I urge you to remember these words that I saw on the shirt of a young Indian boy on Observatory Hill in Darjeeling: Your heart is free, just follow it. 🖤
Following up with yesterday’s post - When my mind is in overdrive, these are my best remedies (that I often forget when I get lost down a scrolling spiral or latest upsetting news article). 1. Get outside. Even if it’s just a quick few minutes in my backyard looking at the rolling hills and ocean views, it helps me stop, breathe and find calmness. 2. Toss my phone and computer on the other side of the room and play with my always smiling babe. 3. Move my body. Get dragged to the gym by @carmenhuter (but secretly know it’s the right thing to do), have a dance party in my living room or simply get on the floor and stretch my body. 4. Get lost in a book, preferably historical fiction. 5. Pop on a podcast and clean the kitchen. 6. FaceTime a friend or family member. 7. Hug a tree. Kidding, but seriously get outside and go for a long walk. We’re fortunate to live at the ocean’s edge and almost always take a daily stroll along the waterfront. 8. Simply sit, let the thoughts run their course and come back to your breath and what your grateful for (definitely something I need to work on). 9. Find a way to make a difference. Sign a petition. Join a eco-activism group, go plant-based, pick up trash you find on the street, or call out your friends for still buying plastic Starbucks drinks. 10. Thank yourself for caring, for actively trying to influence change, for having a heart and spreading love and kindness. Thanks for listening and let me know if I’ve missed anything. x
Lately I’ve felt like a big ball of emotion. Upset with seeing the damage we’re doing to our planet. Enraged at the war against women in the States. Devastated at the thousands of innocent people shoved into terrible detention centers who are seeking a better life. Terrified for the people who are experiencing global warming firsthand. Depressed as the days get shorter, colder and the sun rarely shines. Sometimes it’s hard for me to shake off the negativity and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. My quick fix is getting outside. Taking a deep breathe and listing what I’m grateful for in life. Do you guys feel the same? What do you do to face your emotions? Love, Tor
Here’s to all the four eyes out there! 🤓 For over decade, I have always preferred to wear my contacts as I’ve never fallen in love with a pair of frames until now. Not only does @baileynelson have the hippest styles, the staff are super lovely and ready to help you find a pair you won’t want to take off. Plus, my new frames feature blue light filter lenses which means less strain on my eyes and way fewer headaches. I’m rocking the Adler in gold. What do you think? Have you tried blue light blockers yet? #BaileyNelson #lookdifferent #gifted

Showing Lia the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park from above. Each time I’ve visited, I’ve said it reminds me of the luscious jungle islands of Southeast Asia, don’t you agree? When our constant color chase pays off. Our family holidays are a little bit different to most. The alarms go off well before the sun comes up and we finish everyday chasing the last bit of light. This night we raced up a massive hill dodging cow pies, hoping the view from the top would be worth the rush. As you can see it was 😊. Not a bad way to finish our @ilovenelsontasman trip.
