Having fun making lines and letting my mind wander. It's so freeing! And slightly addictive ;) Inking in my sketchbook with pages that are like butter <3
I feel like my mind is scattered all over the place. Subsequently, I can't seem to decide what to draw these last few days. So here's my last few sketchbook scribbles and brain wanderings. <3
Under the Honeycomb Moon . Having fun with shiny pens and bold outlines. :) I did use a reference for the bee.
Trooptober days uhhh ? The last one. Combined with #fi3ndtober2018 prompt for "Stephen King" I had to draw my favorite series, The Dark Tower. This is what I get for trying to come up with something without a reference: a small man entering the desert wearing an oven mitt on one hand. -__- Things I learned I need to work on: perspective, proportion, and desert landscapes.
Trooptober days 23-25? I don't know anymore haha Ink doodles, illustration ideas. I particularly like the moon and honeycomb/honey. . Sometimes when I'm having intense feelings, it helps to really focus in on drawing something obnoxiously meticulous. When my emotions feel so out of control, this helps me feel in control somehow. I wonder what would happen if I did the opposite, and just be literal or crazy loose with my feelings. I wonder what on earth might come out haha, yikes!
Trooptober Day 20 - 22 . Fall/nature pattern in various inks using a circle stencil, straightedge, and freehanding the rest. Swipe for closeups ---> :)
Trooptober Day 20 + WIP Just some fall patterns ink in my new sketchbook, which is surprisingly nice! It's great for ink and doesn't seem to bleed through very much. Chugging along :)
Trooptober day 18 . So I thought I'd be crafty and use the cardboard bit that's removed when opening a new box of tissues. It ended up looking like a prop out of the 80's He-Man cartoon. Pretty sure Skellator would use this goblet of....purple drank? . The vertebrae were drawn using Faber-Castel Pitt pens in copper, gold, and silver with red and black brush pens. P.S. Sharpie does not work on waxed cardboard.
Trooptober days 15 & 16 . Soft pastels on toned tan pastel paper. . I tried using what I learned in the last Paintalong and translate it to pastels. Not bad for a first try! I think the water needs to reflect the sky or vice versa :P but I'm pretty happy with it! I succeeded in not making too much overworked mud.
Trooptober days 15 & 16 Soft pastels on toned pastel paper . I've had this box of pastels since high school (and haven't used them since). I was worried they wouldn't be any good, or would be brittle, but they're still good! Spent the first day making basically swatches, blending with paper stumps, and making sure each color was still vibrant. :)
Trooptober day 13 Also a watercolor Paintalong with @sarahburnsstudio ! . I opened a new pack of arches cold press and used my new Silver Black Velvet 1" wash brush. :) . Learning how to use wet on wet technique to create a soft, misty effect. I think watercolor is still my favorite medium <3
Trooptober Days 8-12 . White #gellyroll pen circle patterns on black #strathmore "artist tile." . I really struggled with this due to several reasons and learned a few things. - I am not a fan of this pen. It's like trying to make marks with whiteout. Line making is not reliable and I often have to go over them again. In fact, I'd say 99% of all these lines I had to do twice. If you want to do dots, it's a super pen! The tip gets clogged constantly however. - Every circle is different. I have so much respect for folks who can just flow with made-up designs. Apparently I'm not as creative as I assumed when I started this, haha! - I learned if I don't want to do something (art-wise), I have an extremely hard time concentrating and will find any excuse not to do it. That's why this took so long. - I will never do this again :P
Trooptober day 7 - Letting go . Watercolor on yupo paper. I really like this combo (Quinacridone Burnt Scarlet with Indigo) and will probably spend more time mixing colors later. I think 7 days of watercolor and Yupo is good for now, I don't want to bore you all to tears. :P Onward to more experimenting! . Swipe over for a close-up -->
Trooptober day 6 - Cotton Candy Tree I'm on time today! :P Watercolor and indigo ink brush pen on yupo paper. I think I'm getting the hang of it. :) . Swipe to see a couple of closeups -->
Trooptober day 5 . More watercolor on yupo paper. This time I attempted a scene. I'm pretty happy with the sky, but the rest kind of turned into a brush "fingerpainting." The composition is also kinda boring. It's fine. :/
Trooptober 4.5 . Watercolor drips and splatters on Yupo paper. First layer/background is Quinacridone Deep Gold. After that dried, I added Phthalo Turquoise and Quin. Burnt Scarlet. Then I just tilted it back and forth until everything was dry. :)
Trooptober day 4 . Pro-tip: to prevent fingerprints on Yupo paper, get everything ready/taped down, etc. Wipe down the paper with isopropyl alcohol and let dry. I just used a bit on a paper towel. Look at these gradients! . Cascade Green and Rose of Ultramarine
