Did you know that the Vista is one of the oldest theaters in Los Angeles? It stands on the former site of the notorious Babylon set from D.W. Griffith’s 1916 epic 'Intolerance.' In operation since 1923, the year it was built, it's housed openings, premieres, indie and box office smashes, and in the 70s also briefly served as a gay porn theater. #tbt
If you’re looking for something to watch at home this weekend, THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW is now available digitally (which gives me an excuse to repost my photo with the legend that is Ellen Burstyn). I love this movie and am so proud to be a co-exec producer alongside my Water’s End family. It has a great cast including Asa Butterfield, Alex Wolff, Maude Apatow, Nick Offerman, and of course Ellen Burstyn, and it’s a beautiful heartwarming story with a punk spirit. Check it out on iTunes, Amazon etc.! #watersendprod
Fun fact: Scotty Bowers was the model in the bath for this George Quaintance illustration. A 1940s - 1950s artist way before his time, he made sexually charged, homoerotic art that was borderline illegal at the time. Check out his book from @Taschen for more, and see SCOTTY AND THE SECRET HISTORY OF HOLLYWOOD for more wonderfully lurid tidbits from this era.
“Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood” expands tomorrow. Multiple Arclight theaters in LA, Laemmle Pasadena and the IFC Center in NY (check the schedule for New York Q and As with Scotty and filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer). Go see this amazing film that finally tells the story of Hollywood’s queer history and of the incredible Scotty Bowers. #watersendprod
Happy 95th to the one and only #scottybowers honored to be among the guests celebrating him and the opening of the amazing film based on Scotty’s epic life that our client @watersendprod helped produce. Go see it this weekend @arclightcinemas Hollywood! #scottyandthesecrethistoryofhollywood #watersendprod
“Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood” opens tomorrow at the Arclight in LA (perfectly timed for my birthday). Please go see this incredible film that paints a deeply human portrait of a man whose story can finally be told (and whose 95th birthday is pictured here). Matt Tyrnauer’s film brings together two of my favorite subjects: Old Hollywood and queer history. Very proud to be a co-exec producer alongside my Water’s End Productions family. Go see it!
We’re never ones to brag - of course! - but we’re just crazy about Catherine Curtin. You know her from ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, STRANGER THINGS, HOMELAND, and just about every other excellent TV show out there. We know her as the beloved housekeeper Joyce in our film #TheArtistsWife. We’ve been spending time with Joyce in the edit room lately, but we had the delight of brunch with Cathy herself on Saturday, when she was in town for the INSECURE premiere - yup, she’s in that, too! You couldn’t ask for a warmer, more generous, and committed actress - she’s a real gem, and also has some exciting indies in the pipeline that she manages to fit in between all her TV work. Keep an eye on her, people! #TheArtistsWifeFilm #watersendprod #Netflix #Showtime #HBO #Actresses
Very proud day celebrating our client @watersendprod and the film they helped produce @scottythemovie which premiered at @outfest We also got to celebrate Scotty’s 95th bday which was even more scandalous than the film itself. Don’t miss this salacious feature when it opens here in Los Angeles at @arclightcinemas July 27th! #scottyandthesecrethistoryofhollywood #watersendprod

We were so excited by the presence of Dame Angela Lansbury at the Backstage at the Geffen event we attended this weekend that we failed to actually speak to her. But we had SO much to ask her, including questions about her early days co-starring with Ingrid Bergman and Hedy Lamarr, whether she was working on solving any mysteries these days, and of course, her thoughts on The Manchurian Candidate proving to be a prophetic film. #angelalansbury #geffenplayhouse #watersendprod
We spent so much time discussing how best to approach the legend that is Dame Angela that we totally missed our opportunity. BUT I kind of made things right with this photo. And for the record, my opening line was gonna be: “Dame Angela, when you costarred with Hedy Lamarr in Samson and Delilah in 1949, were you aware that she had already invented your future iPhone?”
Our friends at the #AcademyMuseum sent us this wonderful photo of #BruceDern from the brilliant #AlexanderPayne film NEBRASKA. We’ve been spending a lot of time with Bruce lately in the editing room! @tomdolby #TheArtistsWife #watersendprod #Oscars #TheAcademy #filmediting #premierepro #indiefilm #independentfilm

So cool that @watersendprod’s Head of Production, Susanne Filkins, got cover profiled in the Bakersfield Californian, ’From Bakersfield to Tinseltown: Local Girl Makes Good.’ The story hits upon many things, including her rise to Hollywood, where the one and only Bruce Dern calls her a ‘wunderkind.’ It doesn’t get much better than that.
Writer-director Nia DaCosta took home the Nora Ephron award from the @Tribeca Film Festival for her incredible film debut from @watersendprod, #LittleWoods. Each year, the award is presented to a female writer or director who embodies the spirit of the legendary filmmaker. This was well-earned. Congrats!
Today is the day. If you’re in Southern California, NY, Phoenix, Miami or Detroit, please go see this incredible film that I’m crazy proud to be a co-executive producer of. I love this movie, and love being part of the team at Water’s End Productions. If you see it, tell me what you think!
One more of Susanne on the LITTLE WOODS Tribeca Film Festival red carpet because she is owning it.
Check out Water's End's Susanne Filkins on the red carpet with LITTLE WOODS star Tessa Thompson at the Tribeca Film Festival. We're so proud of this film and can’t wait for you to see it!
With the amazing and lovely Tessa Thompson, who gives a staggering performance in LITTLE WOODS. Writer/Director Nia Dacosta’s debut film received a much deserved standing ovation at tonight’s premiere! Love that our company, Water’s End Productions supports female filmmakers and am so excited for everyone to see this powerful story of two sisters struggling to survive in small-town America. #lovemyjob #watersendprod #tribecafilmfestival
You've seen Tessa Thompson in THOR, DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, CREED, and Janelle Monae's visionary new videos. You've seen Lily James as CINDERELLA and in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES. But you've never seen them as raw and powerful as they are in LITTLE WOODS, which will premiere this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival. Huge congrats to Nia DaCosta and the whole team on creating this feminist Western — Water’s End is thrilled to be a part of this movie!
Check out the fabulous new poster for THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW. We are thrilled to be a part of this film, and can't wait for you to see it when it's released in theaters on April 27. Punk music. Buckminster Fuller. Ellen Burstyn. How can you resist? The trailer was just released too. Head over to Entertainment Weekly to see it. #TheHouseOfTomorrow #The Rash #watersendprod
CALL ME BY YOUR NAME is now out in wide release. We love this Providence, RI theater marquee. Go see this film on a big screen!
Wow, it was exactly one year ago that CALL ME BY YOUR NAME premiered at Sundance. I feel so grateful to be an associate producer of Luca Guadagnino’s gorgeous film, and most of all grateful to work at Water’s End Productions, a company that is all about telling bold, vital human stories. The movie is in wide release now, so go see it!
@thatmichellemorgan’s hilarious, sophisticated debut IT HAPPENED IN LA is getting the red carpet treatment over at @itunesmovies! Not that we’re a bit surprised. Morgan’s film is a cunning relationship expose in the tradition of ANNIE HALL and HIGH FIDELITY. Don’t miss the chance to catch the film on iTunes and VOD. . . . #MichelleMorgan #WatersEndProd #ItHappenedinLAFilm
With 2017’s enormous (and long overdue) output of female-directed films, from LADY BIRD to WOMEN WHO KILL to WONDER WOMAN, we’re left wondering if 2018 will be anywhere near as good...this list from @Mubi is making us feel pretty optimistic! . . . #FemaleDirectors #Watersendprod http://ow.ly/PbGt30h3LuZ
If you’re looking for a cute overdose today (and are tired of looking at photos of kittens online) look no further than the adorable PSA that @CallMeByYourNameFilm stars @tchalamet and @armiehammer made for the amazing @AlamoDrafthouse theaters in Austin, Dallas, and Richardson Heights. These two have chemistry for days. . . . #WatersEndProd #CallMeByYourNameFilm #AlamoDrafthouse http://ow.ly/28hu30h3BAK
Wow, CALL ME BY YOUR NAME is #1 at our favorite Los Angeles bookstore, Book Soup! This holiday season, you can fall in love with Elio and Oliver on screen...and on the page, which is how we first discovered these beautiful characters. (and don’t forget the audio book, narrated by Armie Hammer) Is the book better than the movie? In this case, we think it’s a tie! #watersendprod
Auteur @anthonyonah’s contemporary Wall Street thriller THE PRICE is out today on iTunes movies, Amazon, and other streaming platforms. From @amlameenbaby’s stunning lead performance to how Onah’s script grapples with questions of race, ambition, and personal debt, THE PRICE shows a new side of the American Dream. We can’t wait to see where this talented director’s career will go next! . . . #ThePriceFilm #WatersEndProd #AnthonyOnah

We’re loving Matt Tyrnauer’s new doc STUDIO 54, which was the glittery opening night film that kicked off this year’s @outfest. A fabulous portrait of a bygone era, it is only rivaled by Matt’s *other* film at @outfest this year, SCOTTY AND THE SECRET HISTORY OF HOLLYWOOD. Go see both! @tyrnauer #studio54 #studio54doc #scottymovie #watersendprod
IT HAPPENED IN L.A. is now available on iTunes and On Demand. I love this movie so much, and am beyond proud to be an executive producer of it, alongside my Water's End Productions family. On the left here is Michelle Morgan, the film's brilliant writer-director-star-underachiever, who captures modern Los Angeles in all its thorny glory and who wrote a script I want to quote every day. After seeing the movie at Sundance, one of my best friends called Michelle his spirit animal. Watch the movie to see if she’s yours too. On the right is one of the film's stars, Nora Zehetner. My kids are obsessed with her, and you will be too. Just don't ask her to be your best grown-up friend, 'cause two children will come after you. IT HAPPENED IN L.A.. See it now!
THE HOUSE OF TOMORROW opens tomorrow in New York, Southern California, Phoenix, Detroit, and Miami. We are so proud of Peter Livolsi's film, and can't wait for you to see it. It's hilarious and heartwarming, and the performances from Alex Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Ellen Burstyn, Nick Offerman Maude Apatow and Michaela Watkins are incredible. Go see it!
