We’re going from all ABeka video to Sonlight HBL and LA, math with Teaching Textbooks and ACE, Science with Aplologia, A Reason for Handwriting, typing and art for Kaevan, and even some preschool things for the girls (just to keep them busy and happy—they reeeeally want to “do school.” 😂😍). It’s a bit scary making a big change in curriculum like this, but I couldn’t be more sure that we’re doing the right thing for our family and the boys’ learning styles. My dear friends, would you like to hear a funny little story? About four years ago, I did an experiment. Now mind you, in photos I post on social media you'd think that I was rather a snobby one. Believe you me, it's only because I like the way a serious photo looks all moody & Victorian like. 🌿 There was a time that even in high school, I would be accused of being a real snob or that I looked absolutely miserable. 🌿 I soon learned it was because I never smiled. Don't get carried away, I have been a lucky one when it comes to having a pretty set of chompers, they arent perfect but I really have no complaints. 🌿 I decided that no matter what, I was going to practice every single day smiling ridiculously. Did you know smiling increases endorphins, uses fewer muscles and prevents wrinkles? 🌿 These days besides the photos of mystery that I post on the gram I am always with a smile. 🌿 Even my beloved gardener said that was the first thing he noticed when I first met him was that I had the prettiest smile. 🌿 A little tip: Mix a bit of Cream of tartar {the Victorians form of teeth whitening} and water into a little paste, along with oil pulling will make your teeth white. 🌿 Try smiling. It's free and it makes you feel happy. It's a little form of self-love.

2018: The year to learn something new. To put myself outside of my comfort zone. To do things for me, not just for my business. To learn, to grow, to dive on head first into something I know nothing about, and I find that so intimidating. So many people have asked me: “who are you doing this for?” And it surprises me that it seems odd that a girl would want to learn to fish for no one but herself. I miss the ocean. I miss the sea. I miss water. A river is hardly the ocean, but we have one in Calgary and that is about as close as it’s gonna get. I found myself a reason to be in it. Together with the art of it, the gracefulness, the challenge. Much why I love sculling (rowing). A precision that appears so graceful yet so meditatively challenging. 🎣 I did some practicing when I was out on the east coast, and it makes me laugh when I realize just how far I’ve got to go. And how very much ‘like me’ it would be to give up because I don’t think I have the immediate talent and knack for it... but I’m gonna stick this one out. Because guess what; I don’t have to impress anyone but myself. (I don’t have to make money from it, I don’t have to do this for my career.) Hell, I don’t even really need the fish. It’s finally Friday!!👏🏻 Almost time for some relaxation and reflection! Today’s agenda for RFC? First day “back” to 1st grade Homeschooling for our little and a trip to the library to get her 1st library card! 😍 Here is a #flashbackfriday video from our old place in ATX! Yoga is a huge part of our homeschool day! Not only do we enjoy it as “P.E.” but it is also such a fun activity for her! The most important thing I keep in mind when practicing with my little is to keep it fun and simple! She is only 4, so she tends to want to move a lot more than you “should”. But it’s not about perfection it’s about fun! I tend to not film with her either because of this! She loves the camera and will just start dancing😂🤷🏼♀️ The point is Yoga does not have to be perfectly structured! If you are nervous about starting or sharing your practice because you won’t be any “good” don’t worry! I wasn’t any good when I started and I’m not any good now! Summer is not winding down. 😬 I’m in the denial stage of my yearly grief. HOWEVER. This summer has been so hard and so good and has taught me a few things that have been on my mind recently 👇🏼 1. Social media can be the best thing, but also the worst. It can make me feel like crap. I didn’t even realize how my mindless, endless, moment by moment scrolling was playing a huge role in feeling depressed and negative about life, even for no apparent reason. 2. In July I was inspired to be more intentional and aware so I chose a golden rule 👉🏼 ✨no social media 30 minutes after waking up or 30 minutes before going to bed✨I also just stopped scrolling and found myself thinking about it much less. 3. I immediately began feeling so much better. It was like I gently reconnected with myself and had more headspace available for my actual, real life thoughts and gave myself more space and value for my living, breathing self vs my virtual self. 4. It gave me back a fresh breath of perspective and reminded me that social media and our virtual lives in boxes is just an illusion. It’s not real, it doesn’t have power to define me, it doesn’t give me value and how many followers I have or likes I get does not give me significance. 5. What matters and really defines us is how we live our real life. The decisions we make, the growth we pursue, the relationships we invest in, the memories we have of laughing with a friend, instead of writing “lol”, feeling the sun on our skin instead of the glare from our phones and noticing the warmth in the eyes of the person we love, instead of staring at the hashtag #couplegoals. Only when we start to not care about how many follow us or how often we post, or how our lives compare to a set of framed boxes are we truly beginning to taste a glimpse of freedom. And I for one, want to give myself a life where I feel free. #freedomfriday is a new thing! ✨

Current mood: transformation | A lot has been swirling around in my head these days, a great deal of growth happening in my heart, and remarkably after talking with my therapist it all feels better. Every week, I’m so grateful for an hour of sacred time to put it all in perspective. . It’s such a blessing to have another human being that has watched and assisted your personal growth, who has gotten to know the working of your mind and can sit there and say “from this side I can see all the work you’ve done + I’m proud of you.” Cause sometimes when you are in the thick of it, it can be hard to sort out. But it is a pleasure to be seen. . There is something comforting about the reassurance that it’s all natural part of healing, growth and being a creature on this earth. Healing is hard work, it’s not a linear path, it’s not always beautiful, and there’s not just a point when it’s all done. Its not all love and light, it is fucking messy in the shadows. Sashay-ing to the weekend liiiiike....know your worth - then add tax 💸 * * first week back at work is done ✔️ I was so nervous about taking time off this summer. I had all the real freelancer fears about losing out on money, becoming irrelevant and the ever growing workload upon my return. Turns out these were mostly just fears. Clients that wanted to work with me as Brand vs. a “statistic” were happy to wait until I was back at work in August. Despite turning down a lot of work I still hit my monthly target two weeks into the August.
