Many hands make light work, although back-breaking at the same time. Under direction of @chiccharneyfarms we were able to clear 12 garden beds and prepare them for planting. I’m going to put it out there - I don’t think that I have the stones to steer this solo biz ship. I dread putting myself out there on social media, and I dread putting my writing out there, to be scrutinised and ripped apart. . It was a different story, writing for an agency, because my work was never attributed to me. Shocking, right? But, I think I preferred it that way: the faceless wordsmith, crafting away behind the scenes. . I’m much too sensitive for this game. I absorb too much of the negativity that is playing on a loop up in here. . People publicly, and relentlessly, judge others’ work, when that work is completely outside of their field; Personal criticisms fly about; when it’s clear that the people commenting, do not know their victims on a personal level; . And, it’s awful when you’re not crystal clear on who comments on your shit, just to further their own agenda, and who is genuine, and sincerely wants to connect with other ladies in biz, just because it’s fun, and empowering. . I am my own harshest critic - I doubt myself every. single. day, but I have kept pushing on because I have two gorgeous babies at home, and an amazing hard-working husband, who depend on me. . Something heart-wrenching happened today. For the first time, like, ever, I had not-so-awesome feedback on my writing. I put my soul into every mark I leave on a page, and I feel truly saddened that anyone would think that I haven’t given my best, or that I’m out here, being fake, trying to make a quick buck. I feel like I’ve been punched in the guts. Hard. I’ve always had pretty awesome feedback on my work, and I don’t really know what to do, because I can’t write like someone who isn’t me. I’m putting this out there, not to make anyone feel bad, but in the interest of honesty and integrity: two founding principles of my business. I don’t purport to be the most amazing writer in the world, but I write with passion - passion for words, and passion for helping my clients succeed ... We all participated in an activity this past week to have a dialogue about the effects of environmental degradation upon our communities and built environments. How can reeded wetlands interact with agricultural runoff? How can we work with our natural ecosystems for better health, living, and economy? These are questions we all can explore through activities such as these. Note: the inspiration for this workshop was drawn from an activity originally created by @apen4ej , via a colleague at Cal. It is always such a treat to spend time with the amazing women in my extended family, but especially when we come together to support important organisations like the Redwood shelter in Toronto that is dedicated to supporting women and children fleeing domestic violence. We counted the crowd and determined us Brambergers made up 5% of the audience! It also highlights our incredible privledge due to the sheer number of us: that together, we will never be homeless. Together, we will always have food in our bellies. Together, we will always have a place to be loved. My Oma used to always say, "it doesn't matter how much money you have, if you have family you'll always be rich." I would like to add to her legacy by echoing this with a big AND... families can look like whatever you need. You get to decide who is your family, your support system, your people. Some of my family happen to also be related by blood ❤️ the Redwood shelter is an important organisation for providing support to families in need in this capitalist hellscape that doesn't understand what real wealth should be. In the mean time, bills are really real and shelter is not free. Final completed project at Hillsboro-Deering Elementary School. Grades 3 & 4 worked with me over 6 days to finish these 3 x 5' mosaics. They're installed at the main entrance and beautifully enliven the space! Scenes include the double arch Stone bridge, Franklin Pierce homestead, Fuller Library, Fox Forest, hot air balloons, Hill cat paw prints and many animals and birds. Had an amazing time learning from @ourcookquest and @niccomuratore at the Koji & Miso Making and Applications workshop today in Cambridge, MA @commonwealthcambridge Both of these awesome koji visionaries were extremely accommodating to my vegan diet and even made most of the samples vegan (like the miso caramel apples!) for my benefit! This was an incredible workshop that cleared up so many of my questions and gave me an inspiring plan to take my koji production to the next level and inspired many new koji applications, including the root vegetable and mushroom charcuterie. And I had the best vegan sandwich I’ve ever had for lunch- a Maitake French dip on house baked bread with matsutake broth! Serious yum. Incredible work and thanks for curating a space for community development and learning.
