This old cubby house makes a pretty backdrop for the cintronella geranium. I think the cubby house would make the perfect hen house for when we finally make that fox proof chicken run. Because chickens have a right to live in style right? . Crushed cintronella geranium leaves are said to repel mosquitoes. I haven't had much success at my place when in summer time the mosquitoes are out in force. But then I always forget to crush the leaves. I recently potted up a plant for my daughter who has started growing indoor plants in her bedroom. Commending my younger self for taking these beautiful photos. 🌸 • Often I find it difficult to articulate the depth of a feeling or sensation of a place at a particular point in my life. For much of my late teens to early twenties, I suffered with an ED, depression, & social anxiety. I remember bits and pieces of this time, tbh I don’t remember a ton; this season of my life left me feeling very dazed and foggy. I also think my mind has blocked out a lot of the memories as a coping mechanism for moving forward. I remember the sensation of feeling weak & waifish, of being sad a lot, feeling lonely a lot, even with friends & in a relationship. But what I find interesting is that equally, I remember feeling hope & whimsy. I remember looking forward to better days, to believing in happily ever after, in hoping to do great things & make a positive change, despite all the heaviness. I was in an unhealthy relationship for a good deal of this period, but despite that I still believed things would improve & love would flourish. I still had so much drive to thrive. And I absolutely love that I found that strength despite some serious hurdles. • While waiting in traffic on the way home today, I wondered when I lost that. When did I become bitter? When did I feel like I always had to have something to prove to people for acceptance? When did I become jaded? When did I lose my whimsy? When did I become a cynic? I don’t know the answer to any of that. I’d probably say it happened after a series of failed relationships & broken trust, after jobs that were utter letdowns, after feeling lost & directionless, without much guidance or support from academia, parents, or friends. In short, it came with growing up. • But I don’t want to stay that way. I want my wanderlust back. I want that dreamlike zeal & whimsy. I want joy. I want to be myself without worry of being alienated. I want purpose & place. But I don’t quite know how to achieve that. How do I get back to the things I loved the most about myself w/o giving up the good parts of me with who I have become, & without associating those positive traits with the pain that came with them? I’m still figuring that out.

It's good to meet a kind soul in a strange city 🌸

Slumber party ❤️ It was the best week of her 6th grade life. Walking over the busy freeway bridge to school, gave her time to clear her mind of the worries in her world. Except for today she pondered the merriment of the fancy girl slumber party she was invited to. With no sleeping bag of her own, she hoped it wouldn't matter. Trying to figure out how to arrive there, without the fancy girls noticing her transportation was another thing. In her part of the world, a rusted old station wagon never mattered. Not even when strangers had to give it a push start, which happened quite often. Never would she show them her home in the alley, even though it was a big step up from where she lived before. Remembering the time the other fancy girls found out where she lived after moving from Detroit. An old fashioned fist fight was much easier than dealing with unkindness from the uppers. She'd choose a black eye one hundred times over the snarky snippets of the girls who wore pretty clothes. Sometimes she wished they never noticed her at all. Yet she was pretty and nice...and they noticed. As her mom drove down the beautiful tree lined street, her heart raced. Praying hard that no one would come out...and see it, or hear the ugly old boat she'd arrive in. Cinderella was so damn lucky. No carriage would ever be granted, and the rats in her alley would never be footmen. "There it is, stop here!" She lied. Pointing to some random charming house. Quickly gathering her bag, she kissed her mama good bye, with a pathetic lump in her heart. Hoping a million times over, that "Das Boot" would not stall...No. Not Today. "I'll wait til you get in." "No, it's ok. Thank you, mama." Pretending to knock on the wrong door, as her mama puttered away. Her heart ached. Ashamed of her lie, and of her poverty. Sorry her mama had to drive such an ugly car, and telling her that her she had a ride home, but actually taking the bus. She writes this story knowing why she used to buy very expensive cars when she grew up. Why she dated men who drove Ferraris and Rolls-Royce. Why she never thought badly of people in cars that barely ran. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS

It is strange, but most of the last 3 months are honestly a blur. I feel like I have no concrete memories from about Valentines Day until Easter weekend. When did having a need get such a bad rep? You know that saying you’ve heard people say sometimes “that person is so needy” or “they are so needy”? It’s usually not a positive thing. 🌾 Over the past years of our life we have had such great need. Need for money, need for shelter, need for a car, need for a job, need for friendship, need for someone to listen, need for someone to just reach out and give us a hug. We have had a lot of needs! Our life has hit bottom many times. But on the opposite side our life has had many highs as well. 🌱 During one of our seasons of need I had this thought: What if a bad situation or a time of great need is not the end, but actually the beginning?! The beginning of us experiencing God in such a way that only a miracle would get us through? And if we never had this great need, we wouldn’t be able to experience Him. 🌿 We can read all the books, or all the scriptures, and go to all the church services, or search for God in all the different ways (none of which are bad things), but when we actually have an experience with Him, that’s something that cannot be taken away. 🌳 I’m learning more and more that our need is not our shame. But to have a need actually leads to opportunities to experience God outside of the box of what we see with our eyes everyday. 🌼 Today’s video that we are sharing is about being in a desperate spot and needing money to pay bills when all of our efforts had failed. FLATLAY GUIDE 📷 Before I begin with the tips, I just want you all to know that creativity can never be limited to a certain point. To my belief, everyone is born creative in their own way. Let's start off with the tips now; - 🔮 Choose your main product before you start shooting. Think about how you want to portray it. Do you want it to be the highlight of the photo or would you want it to merge in with the others? - 🔮 Shoot in broad day light as it gives the best results. - 🔮 Get creative, try all arrangements that you possibly can. Step back and see how it looks before taking another picture. - 🔮 Be Inspired, inspiration can be as random as it can get. It can be from anything; a color, theme, product, or maybe just an idea that you are waiting to experiment with. - 🔮 Keep trying, flatlay photography requires a lot of efforts and sometimes it may not come off as perfect to you. But consistency is the key. Dont give up, you got this! - 🔮 Be original, dont copy. Everyone has their unique aesthetic sense and that's how you develop it further. If you feel inspired from a certain picture, recreate your own version of it - 🔮 Editing, once you have taken pictures try editing them a little to make it look pleasing. There are several apps you can use including VSCO, Snapseed, Photoshop etc. - 🔮 Gear, don't restrict yourself just because you dont own an Iphone or a DSLR. In my spare time I've been happily poking holes & making little French knots 💛 This started off as a trial piece, where I can practice different embroidery stitches, but I ended up getting carried away... Have to admit that it ended up quite an ambitious project for someone who has never embroidered before, as it is quite large ✨ But I feel like I'm getting there 💪
