Three siblings with different gender identities and sexual orientations bring us into their world during São Paulo's LGBT Pride Month. This sensitive film examines their relationship with each other and how they overcome the rampant homophobia and transphobia that exist in Brazil. “3 Siblings” comes from filmmaker Sheena Rossiter and @DonaAnaFilms. In this chilling short film, VICE's @blaqkorpheus introduces us to genealogist Antoinette Harrell, the “slavery detective of the South," as we travel with them to Louisiana where she tracks down cases of modern-day slavery. The United States Military is the largest transgender employer in the U.S., and yet those who serve must conceal their true identity because military policies ban their service. “Transgender, at War and in Love” profiles Logan Ireland, who just finished his deployment serving as a male. He finds support from his leaders and peers while his fiancée Laila Villanueva, who was assigned male at birth, faces a different journey. This touching tale for modern times comes from director @fionajdawson and producers @gesilver and @jamiebcoughlin of @sidexsidestudios. The dreamy and beautiful short, “Hairat,” was deemed “the most poetic film” at #sundancefilmfestival in 2017. In it, Jessica Beshir focuses on Yussuf Mume Saleh, the “Hyena Man of Harar.” We screened this gorgeous black and white #VCselect at our New York City gathering in March. There are over 150 white-painted bicycles chained up throughout New York City. Each bike represents a cyclist killed in traffic, and each is placed at the scene of the crash. The project first began in 2003, in St. Louis, Missouri, and it’s grown to become a worldwide effort. “Ghost Bikes” tells the story of one volunteer, Mirza Molberg, who joined the ghost bike project in 2011. In 2016, Molberg made a ghost bike for his girlfriend, struck and killed while on her way to work.
