"Months ago, I was very skeptical of the #MeToo movement looking from the perspective of being a man and understanding how it negatively impacts and how there are certain situations that don’t reflect where the man is wrong. Or I didn’t believe they were being honest. And some are being dishonest. But then I really had to sit back and think. That’s not the majority. I think as men we have grown up in the culture of sexual assault that we normalized. The small things we thought was nothing was really sexual assault, because we always had the upper hand. We never felt the pressure that these women were feeling. And when you really sit and take the time to think about how it must feel to be uncomfortable in a situation with someone who is stronger than you, who intimidates you, who is trying to make you do something they want, and you have this anxiety... As men we don’t think about it. And we normalize it. We think she really wants it. These are things we have been taught. These are negative stereotypes we’ve been taught. You have to do real self-reflection as a man. I think that’s what #MeToo is doing. It's calling us to a higher self. And calling us to do real reflection and be able to take ownership and responsibility and be able to teach our sons what is the proper protocol for engaging with a woman...When you have these accusations and the credibility of a woman you have to ask what she stands to gain by coming out and lying on this man. She has a family, her own children, she’s a professional woman. And to see her pretty much be going through the ringer and ridiculed after she had to deal with this trauma for years. And having the bravery to come forward. It’s unfortunate. And it makes me as a man look in the mirror and want to be a better person and want my children to be better people." – MC & Activist @mysonnenygeneral of The @nyjusticeleague and @womensmarch on sex assault and protesting Kavanaugh on Episode 15 of Real Black News with Raqiyah Mays. I found myself nervous about this week's episode because I had to pretty much carry it by myself. My superstar guest rescheduled in the 11th hour and I had no special guest to chime in on each of the top 5 black news stories of the week. (GASP!) But in the end, this became the easiest of all my episodes to date. The fastest to record. The quickest to edit and upload by 7:30am. What I realized is that I've been partially using guests as crutches because (outside of the editing and prep work it takes) interviewing is easy for me. It is simple to have someone on, read a story, ask them questions, and organically play off their responses. Plus it's fun! But having to hold a show by myself and talk for 15/20 mins straight about numerous things? (GASP!) What will I say?? Turns out I have lots to say. I don't need help. LOL! Guess I forgot. :+) Shout to Allhiphop.com CEO @chuckcreekmur for joining this week's Black Hollywood report. And thank you to finance expert @kidswhobank for being flexible with a last minute change to the Black Wall St report to provide tips on Estate Planning (inspired by Aretha Franklin :+) Other topics below. "The world saw all of my breasts and areas I did not want everybody to see. It was very humiliating… I felt like they thought I was a nobody and it was just going to be another situation that happened, and it was going to be brushed up under the rug. For me it was like, ‘You embarrassed me. I will not be embarrassed. Especially when I know I didn’t do anything wrong. No.'” – Chikesia Clemons, on Ep.5 of the "Real Black News" podcast, explaining why she shared the video of her assault at Waffle House. Reportedly, Sheena Evans has asked a judge to increase rapper Gucci Mane who’s real name is Radric Davis child support from $2,076 per month to $20,000 per month. Gucci Mane has called out his baby mama for her alleged expenses, calling them "suspect”. In an effort to keep his bankroll tightly sealed, on November 14th, Gucci filed court docs asking for a judge to order that he does not have to turn over his financial information in his legal battle with Sheena Evans, fearing she could leak it to the press. 👀..It seems as though the internet is torn down the middle about child support. Some believe that his son should live the same way him and his wife does. While others believe that $20,000 a month is absurd. - 🤔..Do you think that $20,000 is too much for Gucci? Should his son live the same lavish lifestyle as he? Or, is his baby mother asking for too much? What are your thoughts? - #TheTrendingTea #ITKGotAQuestion
