It’s 2019! 💃🍾🥳Thank you so much for following along with my antics, everyone - I’m glad you’re here and I promise to keep sharing my best work for you to enjoy! Happy New Year!
Anyone else need a peaceful walk in a garden these days?? Sometimes I just want to shut out all the noise of news, politics, stress, responsibilities... and just walk around somewhere pretty. And of course “accidentally” leave my phone at home. 🌿🌺🍃 This is Gemma the cat, and she gets to walk in the garden at her house every day. Color me jealous... 🐾
"I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. And if no one will defend the world from those darn squirrels, then I must." - Bailey, a.k.a. Wonder Woman ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Happy Howl-O-Ween!
I need a doctor who will literally prescribe kitty snuggles. Because I'm pretty sure that heals a lot more than advil does. Anyone know a doctor willing to work with me on this?! 😉
Today I'm sharing one of my favorite photos of all time - because it epitomizes everything I want to capture with my camera! Joy, play, life, and the irresistible spirit of dogs who know that every day can be the best day ever. Happy moments like this are EXACTLY what I want to remember for the rest of my life - and thankfully, I get to share moments like this with families throughout San Diego all the time. When's the last time you went out and had a RIDICULOUSLY good time with your dog?! 😍🐾⭐️ #forrealtho #notarhetoricalquestion #spreadjoy
Wet dog. Wooden dock. The look that says "please throw the ball one more time?" It all goes together like peanut butter and jelly. (Not pictured: summer at the lake, melting popsicles, and beach bonfires with s'mores) 🏕💦
Today I'm thinking about how life is full of contrasts. The highs and lows, the good and the bad, the exciting parts and the boring times... and this photo from Lola's photo session popped into my head! The contrast of Lola's rich black fur against her mom's bright, colorful garden was SO gorgeous! (Not to mention kinda hard to capture photographically, eeep! But I’m still loving the photos from our session back in 2016.) Enjoy this high-contrast photo as you try to maintain balance in your life... that's what I'm striving for too!
Having somewhat of a sentimental day… this is Areli and Ghost, and their mom just contacted me to book another photo session! I always love working with repeat clients, but this session will be extra-special because A) my clients got engaged during the session! Which was a surprise for both their mom and me! And B) they’ve added a new dog and a baby to the family in the 5 years since I took this photo! So I simply *can’t wait* to update their family portraits!! 👨👩👧🐶🐶🐶📸😍
“Life is like a train… there will be the chance that the train derails. If that does happen, it will hurt, a lot, for a long time. But there will be people who will appear out of nowhere who will get you back on track. Those will be the people that will matter most in your life.” – John A. Passaro What if those people... are actually dogs? 🤔🤔🤔
Happy Independence Day! I hope you’re taking time to enjoy the day off and celebrate our great country today. Personally, I’m with family in central California, exploring new beaches & breweries that I’ve never been to before. I love SoCal, but it’s been wonderful to expand my frontiers - and Bailey approves of our adventure too! That’s not her in the photo, but she always tries to get this wet & sandy whenever we visit a new beach. ☀️🏖🐾🇺🇸 I hope you have a wonderful day, and that you choose to celebrate everything that’s great about this incredible country. We have plenty of ways we can improve as a nation these days, and I know I personally feel lost & hopeless about our future sometimes. But America wasn’t started with a sense of hopelessness, it was founded on an overwhelming spirit of HOPE. So today I’m choosing to hope for a brighter future: one of civil rights, equality, justice, optimism, inclusiveness and love. 🇺🇸 (And puppies - plenty of puppies!!)
Posting this photo just for fun - because a box full of puppies always makes a Tuesday a MILLION times better! 🐾🐾🐾🐾 (Plus: all the puppies in this photo have been adopted into loving homes! How great is that?!)
Happy Friyay! I hope your smile is as big as Moose's today. 😉 My smile is pretty big at the moment, since I just want through many of my photos from my recent trip to Pensacola. I paired them with photos that I took back when I LIVED in Pensacola - like this one of Moose from 2011 - we're talking 6, 7, 8 years ago! The before/after comparisons are absolutely stunning. And they kind of make me want to cry. Dogs age so beautifully. I hope you take a few extra taps on your phone and check them out - they're on my Facebook page, which you can easily find by typing "allison shamrell" into the FB search bar. It's the most recent post. Take a look and give your pup a hug - I think I'll appreciate Bailey's grey furs a little more tonight. ❤️🐾
My in-laws are in town at the moment (hence how quiet my account has been recently!) and we’re headed to Balboa Park for a nice walk with Bailey... so I thought I’d post one of my favorite Balboa photos! This is Bea the min pin, back in 2015. She & her mom don’t live in San Diego anymore, sadly - but I have a feeling that if/when they come back to visit, this garden will be one of the first places they’ll want to find themselves in. 🌿🌷 (Can you guess which spot in the park I took this photo??)
OH MY GOSH you guys - I just got back from Florida! It was AMAZING!!! And I did a really awful job of posting updates along the way! 🤦♀️😬 So here’s a few highlights of my trip: 🏖 I saw people - and photographed dogs - that I hadn’t seen for 5, 6, and 7 years. Many of them had much more grey on their faces than I remember 😭 One client even showed me a photo of her dog that I’d taken in 2010! 🏖 So. Much. Grouper. 🐟🤤 🏖 I made sure to remind myself why Pensacola’s beaches are consistently ranked amongst the top in the world (literally, top-10 lists always include Pcola!) with walks, strolls and shoots on the sand every day. 🏖 Catching up with old friends? Priceless. 🏖 Reality check: my optimistic nature caught up with me. I ended up overbooking myself by taking on a few too many shoots... I was able to get everything done, but at the price of roughly 4 hours of sleep per night. So it wasn’t exactly a *relaxing* trip, and I realllllllly need to be more realistic about my time/capacity in the future. But at least I got to see a bunch of people & dogs, right?! A blog post is coming soon with more details - so goodbye for now, Pensacola! I hope it’s not 5 more years until I’m back!!
