#NikonNoFilter photo from @mimi_emig_photos taken at Millennium Park and Beach in Michigan: “With the rain and cooler spring, wildflowers are out in abundance, blanketing the fields. We walked along, soaking in the magnificent riot of colors, watching birds dart through as they gathered bugs to take back to their young.” 📸: #D750 and AF-S #NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens. Each month, we're taking you into the creative mind of a Nikon Ambassador or pro and showing you how they created some of their favorite photos in a series we're calling #InFocus. This month is Nikon Ambassador @MatthewJordanSmith and a portrait shot with the Nikon Z 7, Mount Adapter FTZ and AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED. Here's how he created this stunning shot, from ideation to execution: “For this image I wanted to create something that felt classic but modern at the same time. My subject, Shonda, has a look that takes you back in time and I thought it would be wonderful to photograph her in B&W (Monochrome mode) and shoot wide open at f/1.4. This created a dreamy look because of the shallow depth of field and brings out the best in a subject, in this case, her eyes. She is a natural in front of the camera and came to life in a matter of moments. This image was shot in Las Vegas during CES when I had little time, so we set up a time to shoot of just one hour. We'd discussed the idea before the shoot so we knew what we were going for and with the time crunch we went right to work and captured this image in less time that we'd planned for. The inspiration for this image came from doing research for another assignment. I was watching an old Japanese movie shot in Black & White but the scenes are out of this world visually. When I spoke with Shonda about shooting I'd just finished watching, so these beautiful scenes were fresh in my mind. To create this shot, I used a constant light that is reminiscent of the old Hollywood lights, I used my Nikon Z 7 with the 105 and made the decision to shoot wide open so the feeling of the image looked classic with a modern twist.” #portraitphotographer #portraitphotographers #portraitphotography #portrait_mood #105mm #NIKKOR #NikonZ7 #NikonLove #mirrorlessphotography #photoshoot
Our next stop for this month’s #travelphotography challenge is the Valley of Fire State Park in Overton, Nevada! Landscape photographer @kawin.towe used the #D850 and AF-S #NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lens to capture this stunning desert scenery. “It was an unnamed, unofficial arch located on an unmarked trail and hidden from a scenic view loop road. I had seen a few pictures of this arch and was able to acquire general ideas of where its location might be. It took me a few hours to finally find it right before the sun went down.” Any travel plans for the summer? Share your #travelphotography with us using #NikonNoFilter for a chance to be featured!
#NikonNoFilter photo from nature photographer @sebastiandido: “This is one of my favorite species of snakes, the Eyelash Viper (Bothriechis shlegelii) one of many species that can be found in the pacific coast of Colombia as well as the Cauca and Magdalena valleys. Yes, this species is venomous but it’s not deadly. People who have encounters with this species usually find them inside agricultural crops like coffee. One thing that makes this species special is how many color morphs it has (it means different color variations). You can find it in green, dark green, orange, brown, pink and even yellow. Very cool right?” 📸: #D500 and AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens. Have any cool photos you’d like us to see? From #NikonAmbassador @iamdixiedixon: “Follow your soul. It always knows the way. This summer it took me to Provence to photograph this beauty!! 💜💜 I shot this with the @nikonusa Z 7 and NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S lens – my new favorite combo for vast landscapes!!! This month’s photo challenge theme is travel photography and we’re taking you on a trip to some of the most picturesque landscapes! Our first stop is the Utah Badlands, shot by travel and landscape photographer @whereisweatherby. How did he get this shot? “I used the focus shift shooting to focus up close all the way to the background. I got my tripod super low so the mud cracks and flowers would be dramatized with the wide angle lens, and waited until the wind died down so the flowers would blend with focus stack.” Want a chance to be featured? A cotton candy sunset sits atop the #NYC skyline in this photo by @dennismaidaphotography, captured with the #Nikon #D850 and AF-S #NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR. Here’s a tip from Dennis about shooting #cityscapes: “When I’m shooting near the water – particularly at sunset – I use a polarizer and grad filter to ensure I don't blow out the highlights and mitigate the glare.” #sunset #citylights
