Join us at the free screening of Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower preceded with a reception and followed by a panel on Thursday, November 15th @thebroadnola (636 N Broad St). This event is free thanks to the generous support of the #FertelFoundation. 6:30 PM – Reception with FREE beer/wine and popcorn 7:25 PM – Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower Screening 8:45 PM – Panel with director #JoePiscatella, and #NewOrleans student activists #ChasityHunter and #LouiseOlivier and #OliviaKeefe (organizers of the March for Our Lives rally), moderated by #MartinDimitrov, Associate Professor of Political Science, @tulaneu University. Unstable times can create the unlikeliest of heroes. When the promise of #HongKong’s autonomy was at risk, 14 year old #JoshuaWong decided to speak up. Amid the glistening cityscape, filmmaker Joe Piscatella introduces viewers to a teenaged activist who inspired tens of thousands to stand up for their beliefs.
As we are going to #vote today, we're grateful for and energized by the civic engagement and lively dialogue we witnessed during this year's New Orleans Film Festival. Many films at #NOFF2018 addressed timely and pressing issues facing our communities today, and their screenings were followed by conversations between our audiences and filmmakers, documentary subjects and community leaders. We are so proud that the New Orleans Film Festival can be a safe space for people of all backgrounds and viewpoints to gather & use #film as a tool to deepen their understanding of others' experiences and to enact social justice through film. This year's Change-Makers and Documentary Feature films tackled a wide range of topics, including U.S. #immigration policy, safety for sex workers, mental health issues, working conditions, poverty and class discrepancies, institutionalized racism, addiction, rape culture, aging, and our criminal justice system. We believe these films have the power to change the world, and we are actively looking for new and creative ways to capture and continue the conversations that happen in our theaters. We hope everyone who joined in these lively Q&A's at #NOFF2018 will take that energy to the polls, and shape our collective future! What we all do now affects what stories we see on screen tomorrow. See you at the polls!
