One of the more stunning shelf clouds I’ve ever seen yesterday near Helena, Oklahoma. Skipped a lot of foregrounds that weren’t 100% perfect until I spotted that old windmill. Nice surprise structure yesterday after not having much hope! A down day today before what might be our first high risk of the season tomorrow.
I'm sure you've seen thousands of pics by now, but here's our view of the McCook tornado yesterday in southwestern Nebraska. The time-lapse should make a nice addition to whatever my next film is, whenever I somehow find time to work on it haha. Awesome first day of our tour. We stuck to our target all afternoon and were on that storm from the get-go and luckily got to see this here despite a rough road network. Would have been on the other three tornadoes too but sadly had no north option to keep up with it. Three guests had never seen a tornado before, so it was pretty awesome to see their faces! #ig_stormclouds #earthpix #discoverearth #igworldclub #igworldclub #storms #supercells #earthfocus #canon #manfrotto #stormhour #tornado #storms #stormhour #corepunch #wunderground
Made some rough decisions, but still ended up in front of this supercell near Tulia, TX on May 7th. Some pretty great lightning, one landed about 1/4 mile away but I didn’t capture that one lol. This one was great! #txwx #stormhour #ig_stormclouds #earthpix #discoverearth #igworldclub #igworldclub #storms #supercells #earthfocus #canon #manfrotto #stormhour #storms #stormhour #corepunch #wunderground
Storms ramp up later this week, hoping to see sights like this again soon! Also, I just launched a Patreon page (link in profile) and am pretty stoked about it! Will talk more about it on IG stories later! Check it out if you have a moment 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Was pretty tired on the 6th after driving six hours to Kansas and knowing where the setup would be on the 7th, so I ended up not going east to Great Bend which I kinda regret now. But I did head back west towards Liberal and on the way got a long time-lapse of the incoming MCS out of Colorado, which had a nice leading shelf cloud on it. Got lucky enough to capture one of the few CGs along the leaded edge here near Satanta.
Happy Wynnewood day :) Saw three tornadoes on this day in 2016. Still one of the biggest moments in my chasing history.
Wild day yesterday...here's my big camera shot of the first Tahoka, TX tornado which was amazing to watch from the first swirl of dust into this beastly looking twister. I was in a great spot to have it come at me, but the dust was insanity and I couldn't see it much after awhile. But I did get some gnarly time-lapses, some right in the bear's cage with the barely visible tornado just west of me, so can't wait to edit those. #ig_stormclouds #earthpix #discoverearth #igworldclub #igworldclub #storms #supercells #earthfocus #canon #manfrotto #stormhour #tornado #storms #stormhour #corepunch #wunderground
No words for yesterday’s chase. From watching the tower go up just west of our target of Tatum, NM, to this moment near Denver City, TX…hands down, probably top 3 structure I’ve ever seen in person. I passed up some time-lapse opportunities that were insane on the south side of the storm with the updraft, but I knew I wanted to get right on the east side of the storm to get a view of the vault and holy crap did it deliver. Time-lapse dream for me yesterday, but this spot was the icing on the cake. This season is turning out to be one of the best I've seen in years so far, hopefully it keeps rocking. #mop #mikeolbinski #earthpix #discoverearth #igworldclub #ig_stormclouds #igworldclub #storms #supercells #earthfocus #vzcomood #best_timelapse #canon #lightning #tornado #stormhour
Could really use some solid SE Colorado supercells tomorrow. Headed to ABQ right now and then driving to Tulia for a documentary segment tomorrow.
First chase of the year wasn't a bust, so that's great...got to see some pretty wild structure here east of Monahans, TX yesterday after the sun was down, which should make for a fun time-lapse! Great to shake off the rust and see some nice convection. Back at it today, really want to play some dryline stuff in NW TX, hoping it pays off. #ig_stormclouds #earthpix #discoverearth #igworldclub #igworldclub #storms #supercells #earthfocus #canon #manfrotto #stormhour #tornado #storms #stormhour #corepunch #wunderground
In the midst of snapping portraits of the bride and groom on Thursday, I tried to grab a few of my own shots…rarely do I see where the rainbow ends, and in this one, you can actually see both of them with “pots of gold” somewhere in those trees. The light was simply unbelievable. #mop #mikeolbinski #mopphotos #instagramaz #see_arizona #igsouthwest #ig_stormclouds #earthfocus #earthpix #discoverearth #canon #stormhour #igworldclub #monsoon #storms #madwx #azwx
Before Endgame yesterday, I had a wedding to shoot that started in Phoenix at 10am and ended up in Sedona for a ceremony at the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The skies looked stormy, but it was mostly virga...until it started sprinkling on us and then it moved off to the east and one of the most epic, long-lasting rainbows exploded before our eyes. People were all going nuts taking photos of it, as was I, along with my buddy Brett Wright who was helping out. Such a spectacular way to end Anna and Daniel's big day...and I will admit, it got us so incredibly pumped, that the drive down to watch Endgame was that much better. What a wild day. Last wedding until September, bring on the storms!
The Hoisington, KS supercell last May 1st was an absolute beast…and over an hour later would drop the Tescott tornado. Here’s a new image! Been on an editing kick this week going through files from last year, deleting all the stuff I'll never get to.
A new image from the eastern Colorado plains last spring near Cheyenne Wells…chased this supercell over 300 miles, from west of Limon to near Scott City, KS. Need a nice, long chase like this again soon.
Hopefully, if the GFS pans out, I’ll start chasing next weekend and maybe things get good. Can’t wait to be sitting under skies like these again.
Here I am, west of Limon last May 14th, getting photographed by a farmer as I photograph a shelf cloud :) It’s fun when you run across incredibly nice people while chasing, which is generally my experience!
