I asked on my story yesterday for opinions on the flooring in our new premises.... ⠀⠀ Best response ever 😂 ⠀⠀ No post of value today so I’ll put up a question box on my stories. ⠀⠀ Ask any questions you like & I’ll answer as many as I can. ⠀⠀ ☺️
Gluten & Heath ⠀⠀ I posted this video on my stories yesterday & it caused quite a stir... ⠀⠀ When I say stir... ⠀⠀ I mean a few dozen people messaged me telling me I had them fooled 😂😂😂 ⠀⠀ A few messages did crop up asking me general questions about ‘intolerances’. ⠀⠀ 2 things to say: ⠀⠀ Intolerances/Food sensitivities DO exist. ⠀⠀ Again, people can’t see past their biases. ⠀⠀ In this video I am NOT saying that non-coeliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) doesn’t exist. ⠀⠀ Although it IS still being debated/studied. ⠀⠀ & my IG highlight explaining that food intolerance testing is made up voodoo woo woo science, does NOT mean some people don’t get bad reactions to certain food. ⠀⠀ You just can’t test for them. ⠀⠀ Unless it’s a basic, well recognised test for gluten for instance. ⠀⠀ Don’t confuse this with allergies. ⠀ To find a ‘trigger’ food: ⠀⠀ You need to go through the arduous task of keeping food logs & doing food elimination to work it out. ⠀⠀ I know. It sucks. ⠀⠀ The money making scam I’d like to highlight today is MRT testing. ⠀⠀ It’s making a comeback & apparently lots of Dietitians in the US are selling out & promoting this pseudoscientific test. ⠀⠀ Hope some of you find this helpful. ⠀⠀ Do go on my IG profile and check out my IG Highlight on this topic if you’re interested. ⠀⠀ #martinmacdonald ⠀⠀ #foodintolerance #paleo #gerd #MRT #LEAPMRT #allergy #gluten #wheatbelly

Next time you see someone reference: Prof. Tim Noakes as an authority on ketogenic diets... just send them this 😂 ⠀⠀ I was going to create one for Mr. low Carb, Dr. Aseem Malhotra ⠀⠀ His comment and photo about ‘low fat yoghurts’ causing obesity due to their large amount of added sugar in them... ⠀⠀ Whilst holding a tub of 0% Total Greek yoghurt... ⠀⠀ Which has 0g of added sugar 😂 ⠀⠀ These people are too emotionally (& probably financially) invested to talk sense anymore. ⠀⠀ Yet they talk with enough confidence to be listened to. ⠀⠀ I’m sorry to everyone that is confused by the world of nutrition due to idiots like these. ⠀⠀ I’m also sorry that those who are supposed to protect you... like Dietetic Associations... are beyond useless at doing so. ⠀⠀ Thank goodness for all the evidence-based practitioners giving out free info on Instagram & Facebook. ⠀⠀ I salute you 👊🏼 ⠀⠀ #martinmacdonald
This is something I’d like everyone I ‘influence’ to realise. ⠀ It’s painful that even when I’m VERY careful to clarify specifically what I am talking about ⠀ e.g. Calories and Fat Loss ⠀ People can’t see past their own biases. ⠀ Inevitably some muppet will start talking about health. ⠀ Fat loss is NOT health. ⠀ Fat loss is often associated with improvements in physiological health markers though. ⠀ This is why it is SO important that people understand that Calories and Energy Balance are what they need to master if weight loss is their goal. ⠀ Physiological health, however, is much more than just Calories and or Fat Loss. ⠀ Alongside other things such as sleep and physical activity, food choices DO matter for health. ⠀ They matter MUCH more than ‘macros’ and ‘macro splits’, for health. ⠀ Contrary to current popular belief. ⠀ You can eat a high carbohydrate diet and be perfectly healthy. ⠀ You can also eat a high fat diet and be very very healthy. ⠀ However, in these scenarios, the high fat and high carbohydrate foods that are being consumed are nutrient dense, minimally processed foods. ⠀ So, my plea is this… ⠀ STOP creating a dichotomy between Food Quantity (Calories) and Food ‘Quality'. ⠀⠀ #MartinMacDonald
Protein for Women ⠀⠀ Short post from me today. ⠀⠀ Stop being fooled by this rubbish. ⠀⠀ There’s no such thing. ⠀⠀ The End. Well, not quite. ⠀⠀ 3 things you can do now. ⠀⠀ 1) double tap this post (you don’t do that on videos as much as you do photos right?) ⠀⠀ 2) Leave any comments or questions or just general like, loves, hahas or wow 😉 ⠀⠀ 3) Watch my story for the extended cut 😂 ⠀⠀ #martinmacdonald #protein #femalehealth #womanshealth #nutrition #fitness
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ⠀⠀ We just bought this! ⠀⠀ It still needs a big refurbish but... ⠀⠀ Come February next year... ⠀⠀ It will be the all singing, all dancing 7500 square foot Mac-Nutrition Collective HQ! ⠀⠀ Something to grow into considering our current premises is 750sqft 😂 ⠀⠀ Plans include: ⠀⠀ - A big gym for staff use with a nice shower block 🚿 - A show kitchen for staff use & filming social media content - Huge new sexy offices with glasses hot desk room and ‘board room’ 😍 - 2 filming studios for... 📹😏 - Mac-Nutrition consultation room and waiting room for when we open our doors to clients in late 2019 - a huge office & relaxation area for me to roll around in piles of cash because that’s seemingly what the haterz think this is all about for me... - An en-suite for my office because my bath & shower at home suck 😂 - Then there is the big ‘room’ next to the big reception that we have no idea what to do with 😂 - oh... & a 150 - 200 seater conference room. Almost forgot about that 🙄 ⠀⠀ This ‘overnight success’ is really fun... 😂 ⠀⠀ - Martin MacDonald, helping and educating people... mostly for free.... since 2002. ⠀⠀ Truly grateful for all of you who TRULY ‘get it’ and understand what I’m about ❤️ ⠀⠀ Truly grateful for my amazing staff too, they have to put up with me and work to my high expectations & the expectations the industry has placed on us. ⠀⠀ Without them, none of this would be possible. ❤️ ⠀⠀
It’s amazing to see how many people are now starting to ‘get it’ ⠀⠀ Whether it’s the general population or practitioners, it’s great. ⠀⠀ However, If you’re a coach, nutritionist, dietitian, doctor etc & you’ve been recently jumped ship... ⠀⠀ From your previous over emphasis on hormones, toxins, gluten etc ⠀⠀ Do the decent thing & tell your followers. ⠀⠀ Don’t try to diffuse into the new trend. ⠀⠀ Don’t try to pass it off as ‘new evidence suggests Calories matter’ ⠀⠀ Just be honest. ⠀⠀ “I was a gimp.” ⠀⠀ “I was taught incorrectly.” ⠀⠀ “I had never questioned if it was true.” ⠀⠀ All of the above are true for me & I thank those that have led me to the right path along the way. ⠀⠀ While I’m here... & you’re reading this. ⠀⠀ Please understand that ⠀⠀ FOOD QUANTITY (Calories) & FOOD QUALITY ARE NOT OPPOSING FORCES. ⠀⠀ YOU CAN CARE ABOUT BOTH. ⠀⠀ Arguing against energy balance for fat loss because you are biased against a Calorie centric focus just confuses people. ⠀⠀ Be part of the solution, not the problem. ⠀⠀ Sign up to my #MacMail to become enlightened. ⠀⠀ Link in my bio ==> @MartinNutrition ⠀⠀ #MartinMacDonald EDIT: This isn’t about Joe Wicks. Plenty of other ‘educators’ who need to bring their followers up to speed.
Finally @TheBodyCoach!!!! ⠀⠀ Good boy! 👏🏼 ⠀⠀ [The tag won’t work as he’s blocked me] ⠀⠀ Good to know he has been listening though! 😉😜 ⠀⠀ I hope he is consistent with his message now though. ⠀⠀ Easy to say this on a disappearing story.... ⠀⠀ More difficult to say it in more permanent media that might affect the sales of his products. ⠀⠀ Would you like to know more about being in a deficit & or losing fat without counting calories? ⠀⠀ If so, just do 2 things, ⠀⠀ 1) show some love on this post with a comment or a ❤️ ⠀⠀ 2) head over to my profile & click the link in my bio & sign up to my #MacMail ⠀⠀ I’ll send out 1 or 2 emails about this topic... ⠀⠀ As well as an email about DNA testing that I’ve got half written. ⠀⠀ One final note... ⠀⠀ Let this be a lesson to all the naysayers... ⠀⠀ Calling people out DOES make a difference. ⠀⠀ No need to get personal. ⠀⠀ No need to be a total jerk. ⠀⠀ There are better and worse ways to do it. ⠀⠀ But it DOES work. ⠀⠀ There’s no need for Joe to admit this... ⠀⠀ But he’s been made to feel uncomfortable enough to feel the need to post this. ⠀⠀ A win for #TeamScience and #TeamCalorieDeficit ⠀⠀ ☺️
Fasted Cardio... doesn’t ‘work’ 😂 ⠀⠀ Something from @bradschoenfeldphd to add to my post yesterday. ⠀⠀ #Repost ⠀⠀ If you think performing fasted cardio will get you shredded, think again. We carried out a controlled study on the topic. 20 young women performed 1 hour of steady state treadmill exercise three days a week; half of the subjects trained fasted, the other half ate just prior to the workout. All subjects were put on a diet designed to lose weight. After 4 weeks, both groups lost a similar percentage of body fat. Now a single study is simply a piece in an evidentiary puzzle and can never considered the final word on a topic. However, what seems clear from the overall literature on the topic is that if there are any benefits from fasted cardio (still highly equivocal), they would be minor at best. So the best advice for those who are simply looking to get lean is to focus on total energy and macronutrient balance; whether you perform cardio fasted or fed should depend entirely on preference. That said, I'd concede it remains possible that a small benefit could be seen by performing fasted cardio. If such an effect does exist, it would seem to be only meaningful to someone who is competing in a bodybuilding or physique competition, where minute differences in fat mass could make the difference between winning or losing a competition. On the other hand, it's also conceivable that fasted cardio could have a negative effect in this regard. A study from Antonio Paoli's lab showed that lipid utilization over 24 hours was actually higher when eating prior to cardio as opposed to remaining fasted. Thus, if you're a physique athlete, the best advice here would be to experiment and try to objectively determine what works best for you as an individual.
FASTING ⠀⠀ The major topic of discussion during my ‘interview’ at Sigma Nutrition LIVE. ⠀⠀ There is so much hype around fasting at the minute. ⠀⠀ Many leaps of faith being made extrapolating test tube and animal data to humans. ⠀⠀ Lots & lots of the benefits of simply restricting Calories being attributed to ‘fasting’. ⠀ I’m definitely on the ‘pro’ side of fasting in the evidence-based community but the amount of misinformation out there on fasting far outweighs the good. ⠀⠀ So many money making / MLM schemes / fad diets make use of the concept of a therapeutic fast to make them seem special. ⠀⠀ As if there is something magical about ONLY eating meat for instance 🙄 ⠀⠀ If you’ve lived a life of indulgence... ⠀⠀ Eaten from dawn until dusk every day for a few decades... ⠀⠀ Skimped on physical activity/exercise.... ⠀⠀ Not prioritised sleep... ⠀⠀ Not eaten your veggies, fruits & berries... ⠀⠀ Then any number of different ‘fasting’ strategies might have a transiently unique benefit to kick start a lifestyle that perhaps DOES pay attention to the things I’ve mentioned above. ⠀⠀ Bear these things in mind next time your mate Dave or your ‘friend’ Carol is obsessing over how much better they feel since only drinking a blend of nut juice (almond/coconut etc), lawn cuttings and whales sperm twice a day. ⠀⠀ That they are probably benefiting from their own weird AF ‘therapeutic fast’ they bought into. ⠀⠀ & as we know... ⠀⠀ Buy-In / Adherence is THE most important factor after obeying a principle, such as an energy deficit. ⠀⠀ #MartinMacDonald #Fasting #intermittentfasting #Lowcarb #autophagy #waterfast
