Our bar front was installed today. This wood is Atlantic White Cedar, also known as juniper. Critical to eastern North Carolina’s development, juniper was over harvested in the mid twentieth century. Today, it is incredibly hard to find. This wood came from a tree that fell in Dare County during a hurricane a few years ago. The logger had to get a special permit to retrieve the fallen tree from deep in the swamp and mill the wood.
We found this moment of respite amidst the madness of construction last week. . This corner of our restaurant will be tucked away from the communal food hall seating. Perfect for intimate dinners or quiet working lunches. You could be sitting here in just a few months.
