Artist @gaiastreetart was here last week painting a memorial mural for our dearest Matt Jones. Our friend Matt left us about a month ago, and if you know of how Living Walls started then you would know Matt was a part of our family. Thank you @gaiastreetart for such beautiful mural and to everyone that was a part of it, @forwardwarrior and friends. Thank you all so much! . You can find this mural right next to the Laura Patricia Calle’s memorial mural painted by @layqanunayawar in 2015 right across @97estoria . Ps: We love our friends, always and forever!
We are thrilled to announce that Yehimi Cambron is our 2018/2019 Laura Patricia Calle Grant. . Yehimi’s mural project, titled: “Monuments: The Original Dreamers” is a culmination of her personal experience as an undocumented immigrant with DACA, of being the daughter of undocumented parents, and of the countless migration stories undocumented youth have shared with her in the art classroom through their projects. “Monuments: The Original Dreamers” will create a platform for the children of immigrants (documented and undocumented) to begin a positive dialogue with their parents focused on their migration journey. . With this project Yehimi will conduct workshops with children of immigrants to produce hand written letters to the parents. This mural will also celebrate immigrant mothers, that despite all the trauma they carry on their shoulders, they remain the most resourceful, entrepreneurial, and selfless human beings for their families. . We can not wait to make Yehimi’s project come to life!

Not in the sense of waving a white flag on the present, nor a red, white, and blue flag. This flag of your design. It stands for taking care of your life and time and doing N0W what you truly want with it.
Today we lost a very important member of our founding family. Our dearest friend Matt Jones played a key part of making Living Walls a reality since the very beginning. We will always be grateful for all the love and hard work you put towards this organization and every mural created in 2010 and 2011. When we had very little, you gave us all the strength and smiles we needed to continue. You left a huge impression in our lives and on every artist you got to work with and we feel so lucky to have been able you have you a part of our team. Thank you for giving us so much over the years Matt Jones. . Rest in power dear Matt, we will always love you and miss you.
#tbt to when we had the honor of working with two of the most Incredible muralists in the US, @michelleangelaortiz and @jessxsnow. They both came to Atlanta to work with us and the Buford Highway community during the BUHI Walk last year in partnership with @welovebuhi . These two powerhouses are doing some of the most relevant mural work in this country right now. Fusing art and activism, they are using their art as a platform to amplify the voices of the immigrant and LGBTQ communities in the US. Go follow their work, we promise you it won’t disappoint!
Our friend and talented muralist @martin_ferreyra just had a gallery opening at @wishatlgallery alongside another long time friend @yopablo. Make sure to stop by the gallery to check out their exhibit while it last. . @martin_ferreyra also left us with a quick but super dope mural on the side of @elponceatl. Make sure to check it out next time you go enjoy a tasty bite at El Ponce.
