[AD / #PRinvitation] Happy Easter! My friend Anne and I were invited to sample the menu at @watford_florist, ahead of the restaurant’s opening tomorrow. We had the most delicious Easter lunch. We both opted for the veggie chestnut, mushroom and red lentil roast and it was out of this world! The cocktails were incredible too and we both loved the Koala Tree mojito. For dessert, I went for Nutella doughnuts and Anne had a fruit tartare with sorbet. Thanks @thefloristuk #letitbloom
Are there little corners of your home that always make you happy? I have a few: the picture of my children’s feet in the master bedroom, the wall over my desk, full of bits and bobs that make me smile and this little shelf in my front room. I bought a few plants from @grouponuk recently and I’m really happy with all of them: they look great and so much more healthy than those from the garden centre nearby. I’ve also got a new frame for this pretty retro print my friend Aimee gave me for Christmas years ago, before she started @retroromance_boutique. I also have the plant pot of dreams (the yellow one), found in @sainsburys a couple of months ago as well as my new white pot from @homesense_ukie. When I bought it earlier this week, I also found this beauty of a rabbit for £5 ♥️♥️♥️ - all these little things make me so happy. Life is all about the little things. #notanad
[AD] What’s your favourite hot drink? I am a latte kind of girl, always. You can now get your favourite milky drinks lactose-free with Arla Lactofree in Costa Coffee. Arla Lactofree is easier to digest and it is ideal for people who are lactose intolerant or have a sensitive gut. It’s a brilliant alternative to regular milk, without any unexpected aftertaste or flavour. It’s got all the dairy goodness of regular cows’ milk, just without the lactose. Head over to the blog (link in profile) for more info & a giveaway for a £30 @costacoffee gift card. @arladairyuk #LactofreeJoy - Photo taken by my 10yo ♥️♥️
I’m not normally one to jump on a bandwagon, but I just spotted a post from Jamie Oliver, sharing a picture of himself 20 years ago. Back in 1999, @jamieoliver was filming The Naked Chef in his flat. 20 years ago, I was 19. I was about to leave my small village for Paris, where I’d be going to uni. I went on my first ‘big’ holiday abroad. Tunisia was amazing, even more so because I paid for it myself! Fast forward 20 years and I do nothing related to what I studied. I have 4 gorgeous children, can’t afford fancy holidays (2nd photo taken in my living room last summer!). I weigh 3 stone more than I did 20 years ago. Does it all bother me? Not one bit! I’m pretty happy! Hairstyle, love of open-toe flats and silly poses in front of the camera haven’t changed one bit. Anyone fancy a #20YearChallenge? #TheNakedChef20?
Today, I’m joining Louise @littleheartsbiglove to celebrate all things joyful #givejoyforjessica. Happiness for me is... spending time with my 4. They left for Devon with their dad 24 hours ago and although I am grateful for the silence and the chance to work and declutter my house (how sad am I?), it feels like a part of me (a big one at that) is missing. I’ve just spoken to them and they’re having the best time with their grandad, cousins and aunts & uncles. They’re making memories and not missing me one bit. That makes a huge difference and I think it would be 100% harder if they weren’t so happy there. For now, here are a couple of photos from the past week, one taken in the New Forest last Saturday and the other one on the tube a few days ago. Love my happy kiddies! What makes you happy?
We spent the afternoon in Burley. The village dates back to the Bronze Age (about 3500 years ago). Burley’s history involves dragons, witches and smugglers. In the late 1950s, the famous white witch Sibyl Leek lived in the village. She’d often walk around the village in a black cloak with her pet jackdaw on her shoulder. There might even be a coven of witches practising in the area today. What’s the most interesting place you’ve visited recently?
When I started redecorating my living room a whole year ago (I know, right?), I wanted to make it look fresh (it hadn’t been painted in 10 years, the TV didn’t work and the ‘sofa’ was an outdoor daybed...). I wanted a room that would feel cosy, full of colour and I even splashed on a bit of @farrowandball paint for one of the walls as well as a new radiator. The rest was all pretty cheap or upcycled. The sofa and TV came from a couple of clearing jobs by @allclearwasteltd’s, the kids and I painted old frames as well as the furniture, Aimee @retroromance_boutique gave me a plant pot and I moved my favourite handmade @blackdogpottery.uk pot from the kitchen to the living room. I wanted some positive prints in there too and I found a couple of cute @zoo_portraits prints by @yagopartal in Brighton, framed a nice print I’d been given the previous year and asked my friend Lynne @ohpositiveprints to resize some of her prints for me. Gosh I love her prints! They are full of positive vibes, happiness, gratitude and quirkiness. Lynne is a ‘get up and go’ mama, a creative, a crazy lady and I love everything about her. Go check her Etsy shop, all her stuff is cute, cheap and unique (I keep telling her to put her prices up). Lynne is no ordinary mama, and she deals with whatever gets thrown in her direction with gusto! Tantrums, growth spurts, insecurities, sleeplessness. We all know that, don’t we, mamas? One of Lynne’s little ones has Down’s syndrome and Coeliac disease (you couldn’t make this up, right?). I saw her with Sam on Wednesday and I felt like crying. There was sign language, there were smiles, there was laughter, there was so much love. You rock, mama! Go and support small UK businesses, guys! #supportsmallbusiness #supportsmallbusinesses #contentcreators #thisismyhome #alwaysgrateful
#ad #pressinvitation - I had my best Mother’s Day yet yesterday. My four ♥️♥️♥️♥️ woke me up (too early) and the littlest made my cup of coffee and they all proceeded to open all the pressies and cards they’d made for me and got with their savings. They’d drawn the prettiest cards and picked lots of little things they knew I loved: chocolates, a book, a mug and even a homemade (by my little man!) coffee table / footstool. After Crevette finished making the Oreos & Cream cake for the afternoon, I tidied up the mess in our house and we went to @yosushi with our friends Anne & Styn @annetaverson / @allclearwasteltd. We had such a feast! From Korean chicken to salmon sushi to avocado maki to edamame beans to Yakisoba noodles to Chicken Katsu in a Bao bun to Pak Choi to Korean chicken: we ate so much delicious food and enjoyed every minute there. My 4 can be fussy but surprisingly, it’s not all sushi at YO! And they all ate loads (and loads and loads). Just in case you’re planning a visit to YO! During the Easter holidays, check out this brilliant offer: The Kids Eat Free offer is BACK. For every adult who spends £10, one child can eat FREE. If you spend £20, two kids can eat free etc. #japanesefood #fussyeaters #eatingoutwithkids
My big boy made this amazing Oreos and Cream cake all by himself, using about 5 different recipes for inspiration. He was determined to reduce the amount of sugar suggested in the recipes he found on Pinterest. Ine of the frosting recipes had 9 cups of sugar!!! He used 1/3 of a cup. #kidsinthekitchen #kidswhobake #cakeislife #cakelife
[AD / press invite] Look what my four and I made on Monday! We had the best time at Kinu’s Deco Curry Workshop @ichibalondon. I couldn’t recommend the classes more: they’re £18 per child, the children have A LOT of fun every time (I did get to join in too on Monday!), there’s always a little goody bad or something to take home and the food is delicious. It also ends up being their dinner (and mine!). We’re always welcome to eat it at Ichiba, where there’s a food hall and a lot of Japanese goodies for sale. Thanks @kynu_ & @ichibalondon for having us again this week ♥️ #edibleart #playingwithfood #kidsinthekitchen #funnyfood #kidapproved #foodart #foodforkids #kidapproved #kidfriendlyfood
#ad Since I discovered the #MiracleMorning, I’ve started most days at 5.30 a.m., focusing on myself and nothing but myself. It’s been great, and as a result, I’ve felt a lot more energised, organised and productive (boom!). Straight after my Miracle Morning practice, I have a shower and I absolutely love the smell of the new Radox ‘Make Big Waves’ shower gel, with its dead sea salt and fresh mint scent. What kinds of scents do you like most in the shower? @RadoxUK @BootsUK #ShoweredinPositivity #RadoxReady #Radox
These four! They’re messy, cray-cray, argue all the time, answer back, have meltdowns, flood the bathroom daily, sneak food upstairs, never want to go to bed and create more washing than a team of rugby players on tour.... but Look at them! They’re my world, my life, my reason to get up in the morning. #letkidsbekids #mykidsaremyworld #mumlife
Bread, glorious bread! Is it just me who could eat bread all day, every day? Just made this loaf and it tastes so nice with butter! No kneading, no silly ingredients, no faff or mess. Check my stories (will have in ‘Food at Home’ highlights. Recipe also on the blog under ‘easiest bread recipe’ ♥️ Photo taken on iPhone XR, new backdrop by @cblbackdrops, bread board pressie from @ssecyl years and years ago
#PRsample #ad If your little (or big) ones are fussy, this book by Emily Leary @amummytoo Is for you! Get Your Kids to Eat Anything is not just a cookbook; it is a 5-step programme that looks at fussy eating with a really innovative approach and focuses on working WITH your fussy eaters and introducing them to new flavours, textures and colours little by little so you can finally move away from the few staple meals you know they’ll eat and be more adventurous in the kitchen. Have you got your copy of the book yet? #fussyeaters #getyourkidstoeatanything #familyfood
I had the best day today with one of my closest friends, Aimee @retroromance_boutique at a lovely press event. We’d been invited by @by_spode and @ukportmeirion to look at their collections and have a go at lithography (I loved it!!). It was a food photographer’s heaven, with lots of colours, patterns, textures and a dreamy location. As always, I was drawn towards the @sophieconran for Portmeirion collection, with it’s clean lines and modern design. I also fell in love with the quirky, vibrant collection by @saramillerlondon and I could have taken all the @by_spode teacups and saucers home (check the one I’m holding!). #PRevent #AD Please note that I wasn’t compensated to attend the event or asked to post anything at all but I received a goody bag #SpodeDNA #GetTogether #PMxSPODE
