I was scrolling through my photos and stumbled upon this beauty 🤣, taken by my friend Anne during our recent white weekend in Brighton. We had the best time, walked around town, chatted for hours on the beach, chilled at the spa and recharged our batteries. Me time is so important! Don’t let yourself be the last thing on your list. You never ever get to the bottom of a to-do list, so you’ll never get to the self-care but unless you make it your priority. I learnt that from the wonderful @sophielebrozec #liferebootcamp
What clothes should I pack for Camp Bestival??? The question went round and round in my head for weeks and I had no idea what to pack for the family festival. I used to go camping every single summer as a teenager, but I had not slept in a tent in years. My last time was in Glastonbury in 2005... and I had no children at the time! I just ended up going with bright colours (no way was I losing my children in the crowd!) and comfy shorts & T-shirts, dresses and dungarees. I took a couple of nice dresses and warm jumpers for me, and I also packed our waterproofs (doh!). Things got muddy with my 4 but I wasn’t worried: I’ve always got ACE at home. It’s gentle on our clothes yet tough on stains so it got our clothes mud-free and kept all colours vibrant. @acecleanuk #ACEit #ACESummer #ad
My 4 and I are on our way to France, whoop whoop! My mum loves tea so I’ve brought a few blends from Adagio Teas with me. Whether you like herbal tea (Spearmint is my favourite), black tea, green tea, Matcha or Earl Grey (by far the prettiest), @adagioteas have it all! The tea specialists have an impressive range and they also have beautiful accessories (my new teapot is getting lots of use!). If you like tea, watch this space as I’ll host a giveaway right here on Instagram. #PRsamples
Yesterday, I went on a bit of a shopping spree to make sure I had everything for my four to go back to school next month. I might or might not have spent a couple of hours in Primark... How could I resist their slogan prints for my girls? I got them matching reversible sequin T-shirts (always top quality), school tights, socks, underwear for the four of them and hair bands. I even found pretty patent school shoes with cat faces on for Wriggly! Oh, and I might have bought a jumper or two for my brothers (I want to keep the retro Pac-Man one for myself. It’s so 80s!). Whenever I go to France, I bring a T-shirt or jumper from Primark for each of my brothers & nephews and they love their little surprises! #ad #iworkwithprimark @primark
I’m getting ready to go out and I’ve realised I’ve run out of chocolate. I want chocolate NOW!!!
Your Future Is Now.... yes. That! My children are always thinking of the next day out, the next milestone, the next ‘big thing’ and I constantly remind them not to wish their lives away, because life is short and life is for living, for enjoying the little things, no matter how small. This morning, I was struggling to think that way. I woke up alone, and felt a bit meh. Then I received a bunch of beautiful flowers @prestigeflowersuk from my friend Donna @genuineplacebo84 and the floodgates opened at Donna’s kindness, at how lonely I felt, at that painful feeling of being away from my children. Once I’d mopped all the tears, I reminded myself how lucky I was to have that little bit of time to myself and I answered a few work emails, getting my mailbox to under 100 emails for the first time in ages (whoop). I then had a croissant AND a pain au chocolat with coffee for lunch (yay baby) and started stripping all the beds. I shall be washing every duvet, every pillow and every cushion I can find. I shall be decluttering, tidying and sorting out paperwork. I might even enjoy it with a bit of music. You know what, when I see my babies next Wednesday, I will cuddle them a bit tighter, because they might be annoying, nagging and bickering all day, but they are my LIFE. What are you guys grateful for today?
I love these 4 so much it hurts physically to be apart from them. They went to Devon with their dad yesterday and it’s their first holiday without me. It means I can get some ‘me time’ as well as eat all the chocolate without having to hide behind cupboard doors and I can even pick what I’m watching tonight but gosh I miss them! So far, they’ve had lots of fun in the sun with their cousins, played on the beach, had cuddles with their Poppy (my father-in-law extraordinaire) and knowing they’re having the best time means I can be productive here and think of our holiday to France at the end of next week. I took this photo at my friend Miranda’s wonderful shop @sweet_as_a_button and all four children were wearing @vertbaudetuk SS18 clothes (PR samples).
When you go camping, how long does it take you to put everything away? It took me forever to put all our gear back to where it belonged! The rain and wind situation on our last day @campbestival didn’t help but we took it all in our stride and I kind of threw everything in the car rather than packing it all nicely, so my house looked like a camping gear launderette for days. I’ve finally folded all the sleeping bags, cleaned and packed our camping chairs (thanks @milletsonline & @blacks_online), washed our towels and all muddy clothes (it was my first time washing my beloved @lucyandyak dress - I bought it a couple of months ago and I’ve worn it every other day!), put the tent back (miraculously) in its tiny bag... and it’s all ready for Camp Bestival next year! Yep, it was THAT good I’ve already got next year’s dates in my diary. No way am I missing it! Check out little YouTube video to see what we got up to. Tomorrow (3rd August) at 10am, 2019 Camp Bestival tickets will be on pre-sale (adult weekend tickets for £150). Camping Plus, Hospitality and Backstage Camping upgrades will also be available at pre-sale prices. Just sign up to the mailing list (campbestival.net) to receive an access code. What do your little ones like to dress up as? My four have a huge (overflowing) basket of dressing up clothes. One minute, they’re mermaids, the next they’re doctors and the next they’re wolves or ghosts. They just love dressing up and get changed 3 or 4 times a day. It’s exhausting to nag at them to tidy up, but it’s also hilarious when they turn up dressed as half Viking, half Rapunzel. This weekend at @campbestival, we took it in turns to be a shark, lobster, pirate, mermaid and it was brilliant to be amongst like-minded people who took ‘dressing up’ to a whole new level.
Do you always have formal mealtimes or do you sometimes opt for mezze-like meals? I love a sharing platter. It just makes me happy to see everyone help themselves to whatever they love most. It’s pretty relaxed and guests don’t feel like they have to eat anything they don’t fancy. We recently discovered Off The Eaten Path and I love with the Rice & Seaweed Crispy Curls, so much so that I hid the rest of the pack for later! #ad #vegetarian #snack #seaweed #offtheeatenpath #forthecurious @offtheeatenpathsnacksuk
This weekend, my four and I went to our first ever festival as a family. We had sunshine, we had rain, we had fun, we had lots of food, we had friends there and it’s safe to say we had the best time at Camp Bestival. The festival was absolutely incredible and I couldn’t recommend it enough for families looking for a holiday everyone will enjoy. Whether you’re after live music, crafts, circus performances, bedtime stories, laughter, kids’ crazes (slime, LOL dolls, Mr Tumble...), good cocktails, folk music, eco-friendly crafts or rides, yoga, massages or talent shows, @campbestival has it all... will you be there in 2019? We certainly will! #presstickets
Brownies, brownies, I love brownies... with this heat, everyone craves salad and fruit. I just crave chocolate, peanut butter and nuts 🤣
Bikini or no bikini? The question hasn't occurred to me in over a decade... When I got pregnant with Crevette, I stopped wearing bikinis. I'm not sure why. It might have been because I wasn't as body confident as I'd been before. It might be because I was a mum and thought I had to wear a 'mum swimsuit' instead of a bikini. I honestly don't know. Wobbly bits or not, I've had four gorgeous children thanks to my amazing body, and I've decided to stop hiding the wobbly bits. There, I said it. When I decided to put a bikini on this morning to see what I looked like, I didn't think I'd fit in this little number I last wore in 2005 on a beautiful beach off Koh Chang in Thailand. To be fair, it was pretty small (those boobs have grown a lot in 10 years). My tummy might be toothpaste white compared to my arms, but I don't care. Poor thing hasn’t seen the sun in 10 years! I can wear a bikini and this summer, I'll be found in my mum's garden goofing around with the kids in the paddling pool or reading a book (falling asleep) on a sun lounger. Right, to be fair, I would never in a million years have thought of sharing a photo of me in a bikini, but today the UK blogging world are sharing #swimsuitselfies in honour of Kate @witwitwoo. Kate passed away on Monday. She was a real inspiration, full of body confidence, fun and oomph! Her death has been an absolute shock. Kate was a single mum and her two sons have set up a GoFundMe page to pay for her funeral. If you can contribute anything at all, I have shared the link in my bio. Life is too short to worry about what you're wearing, how others see you or to be miserable. Just enjoy the little things and #bemorewitwitwoo!!! Photo taken by 9yo Crevette ❤️
School's out for summer! What are your plans for the next 6 weeks, peeps? So far, we've had a birthday party for my big boy, who turns 10 in ten days. He had the best time at his laser tag party. His friends are all such lovely children! They played, they ran around, they laughed, they ate. No matter how much I struggled to make this piñata cake for my little man, it was a huge success! I used the trusted Hummingbird Bakery chocolate cupcake recipe (with less sugar!!) I always go for as well as a simple cream cheese frosting. It was huge and really yummy! Today was the last day of school for my 4. Their school reports were so good we celebrated with dinner @pizzaexpress (using my Tesco points). Tomorrow, friends are coming for a sleepover and we’re going to the free open air cinema in town to watch the new Jumanji and The Greatest Showman. We’ve also got @CampBestival next week, Devon for the kiddies and their Dad and France for my 4 and I. It’s going to be a busy summer!!
This morning, Beanie had her end of infants celebration. The children put on an all singing and dancing musical, ’Pirates versus Mermaids.’ There was singing, there were jokes, there were lots of tears (parents, teachers, children too at the end from seeing us all in tears). I am always amazed at the amount of work done by teachers, their passion, their dedication and their love for these children they care for. Beanie took her pressies to her favourite teacher ever and she was so proud to hand her a handmade card along with salted caramel truffles and a personalised notebook. @grownupchocolate @urbancottageindustries #PRsamples
I couldn’t help myself... had to share another one of the photos I took of the brownies I bought from the lovely Holly @mrsbellsbrownies. They’re pretty photogenic, aren’t they? My little props and bits and bobs are from Aimee @retroromance_boutique and the background is by Lucy @capturebylucy @cblbackdrops
What’s the last thing your children made using cardboard boxes? Before the children came home from school, I left a few Amazon boxes out, together with empty Petits Filous yoghurt pots, glue dots, pens, feathers, scissors and stickers. My four had fun for a good hour, just playing freely and creating their own little stories. I like letting them do their own thing and just being children rather than always looking over their shoulders. Once they were done, I found out that Crevette had made a cute pusheen cat, Beanie had given up on her helmet and the younger two had sat in the bigger box and stuck everything they could get their hands on to it. Moral of the story: don’t bother buying kids presents - just give them cardboard boxes! #PetitsFilousPlayFree #PeelLickPlayFree #ad
Which ones would you have? I’m a salted caramel kind of girl and my little man tends to go for the triple chocolate brownies. I didn’t make these babies by the way, bought them from @mrsbellsbrownies and thought they were too pretty not to photograph before washing them down with coffee 🤗
