Last week, I went to the official launch of @tabacbarnw5, a fab little bar in Kentish Town, full to the brim with delicious wines. My friend Anne and I had a couple of those cured meat and cheese platters. Heaven! We also met the lovely @mspriyapatel and her sister and chatted for ages about society, North London and how mixed and wonderful our city is #pressevent
As much as I could hibernate all winter, I do love advent and all the crafts and homemade presents we make for Christmas. It makes me so happy to just sit around the dining room table with the children and to just get creative whilst listening to Christmas classics (and singing along very badly). The lovely people at @bakerrossltd sent us lots of Art supplies for Advent and so far, we’ve decorated mugs (check Crevette’s post on the blog), tree decorations, cards, mini gingerbread house lanterns and baking kits. Keen, much? If you fancy doing some crafts too, Baker Ross are giving my readers 20% off a £20 spend on their site using code MEL20 ❤️
My youngest, my baby... I don’t think this little lady has ever been this engrossed in a book. She received her new @libriogram book of her little character going round the world. She loves finding out about other places and most of all, she can spend ages looking for her little character (she created it herself too!). It makes me so happy to see my children get so enthusiastic about reading (or in Wriggly’s case, looking at books!). It’s such a gorgeous personalised book and I couldn’t recommend it enough. #ad #librio #roundtheworld
I've just found this photo of my little Jumpy in the woods, looking bouncy and chirpy. I have no idea what she was grinning about, but seeing her so incredibly happy is a reminder that despite the sleepless nights, the constant worry, the meltdowns, the arguments, the silly behaviour, it's all worth it. Gosh I love being a mum / mama / maman! What do you love most about having children?
Last night, I was fortunate enough to be invited by the lovely people at @marksandspencerfoodpr to try the very best in food and drink for Christmas. We had vintage champagne, venison pâté, Brussel sprouts, salmon carpaccio, Sancerre, beef Wellington, Côtes du Rhône, chocolate pine cones, luxury marshmallows, mince pies... the food and drink were out of this world and conversation was flowing all night. It was the best Christmas party I’ve been to in a very long time. Thanks @marksandspencer #mymarksfave #ad
Happy 1st of December, everyone! It's official: the party season has now started. My four were overexcited this morning to be allowed to open the first door in their advent calendars and to check our kindness countdown. They had a chocolate coin each and their activity for today was to write their letters to Father Christmas. We all had such a lovely morning, just taking our time in our pyjamas, making Christmas decorations, writing to the big man in red and feeling festive. This @smiggle_uk advent calendar was a #PRGift.
My little man wasn't at school today so we spent the day together. We didn't do much but we enjoyed each other's company. We chatted, we did a bit of crafts and just spent some time together, just enjoying the peace and quiet. It's nice to have no plan whatsoever sometimes.
Just found this photo of my youngest with Mr Nibbles. I don't think I've ever seen her so careful and gentle. She loves Mr Nibbles and is always keen to give him a cuddle and look after him for her big sister. Until Beanie's birthday in September, I liked the idea of a pet, but I was also convinced I didn't have time / patience / money for one. It turns out getting Mr Nibbles has been the decision we've made in a long time. He helps my eldest daughter calm down when anger rises multiple times a day. It helps the children feel responsible and grown up, because they re in charge of feeding Mr Nibbles, giving him love and fresh water as well as cleaning all his things. I help and remind, of course, but they are in charge and his wellbeing largely depends on them. We couldn't love Mr Nibbles more. Did anyone else find that getting a pet was a turning point with their children?
Took these two Harry Potter fans to the @wbtourlondon last night and they had the best time, walking around the studios hand in hand like they owned the place, chatting about their favourite HP films, the best way to pronounce 'Wingardium Leviosa' and loving life every time someone called them 'The Two Herminones' or went "awwww" at them. They were amongst the youngest / cutest (I might be biased but who cares?) people there last night. They absolutely loved pretending getting their hands burnt on the fake fire, playing with the different types of fake snow and the Forbidden Forest was a highlight for both of them. Can we go back next week, pretty please? #HogwartsintheSnow #presstickets
Sri Lankan spice mix... my current flavour of choice for curries. It is yummy, has a kick that is different from our usual spice mix (the heat comes from the roasted black pepper) and I am (slowly) writing a blog post about it. I couldn't wait and had to post this photo though because I love it so much! What's your favourite curry at the moment?
Happy Monday everyone? Did you all have a nice weekend? I spent my Saturday with this little man in Shoreditch, taking photos of street art and using the new iPhoneXS with @threeuk. It was a fun, informative day (#PRevent) and we both came home bubbling and pretty happy. Yesterday, we did some crafts, baked and started getting the teachers' presents ready for Christmas. Oh, and this boy had a much-needed haircut!
How do you choose the food you buy for your family? Do you go with the prettiest, shiniest fruit and veg or are you happy to go with wonky ones? Do you pick the cheapest meat or do you look at where it comes from and how the animals were looked after? I am more and more conscious that I haven't got the faintest idea where most of the food we eat come from and I've just spent a whopping 10 days (yep, that's TEN whole days) researching food, provenance, organic produce and read dozens of reports, articles and government-funded research to figure out whether or not organic is best. Check my latest blog post to see what I found out. What are your views on buying organic food? @organixfood #FoodYouCanTrust #NoJunkJourney #ad
It's a real honour to have my friend Mandy over on the blog today for #FeatureMyFoodFridays. Mandy writes not just one blog but TWO: the first one, @sneakyvegblog, is mostly aimed at children and getting them to eat more fruit and veg and the second, @cookveggielicious, is all about quick and easy vegan food. Mandy shares her vegan pesto with tagliatelle recipe on my little blog, and it is the perfect mid-week meal as there is virtually no prep whatsoever involved! It you fancy taking part in my 'Feature My Food Fridays' series, just send me a quick email and I’ll tell you all about it. Photo credit: Mandy @sneakyvegblog / @cookveggielicious
My little man, my eldest, my boy... You are such a lovely human being and I am so proud to be your Mummy / Maman / Mum. You are so kind and sensitive. I hope I can protect you from the world and help you see how beautiful it can be. You are creative, you are full of sass and attitude, you are gentle and generous. I love you, little man!
Hands up if you’re like me and really struggle with this time of the year, when there’s less and less daylight… For me, using @lumie.lights has been the most effective way to fight winter blues. I use a Bodyclock as a reading light and alarm clock, a Lumie Desklamp to boost my energy levels as I work and I also have a large SAD light in my living room. About a month ago, I also discovered the Miracle Morning by @hal_elrod and I have to say that making the effort to wake up earlier and to start the day focusing on myself has also made a huge difference! Although I have always been a night owl and have never been able to get up early, I have made the decision to become more of an early riser. Most days, I now wake up an hour earlier than usual so I have 60 minutes to focus on the following: meditation, reading, gratitude/journaling, affirmations, visualisation and exercise. It’s incredible the difference these practices make and I feel awful when I skip a day or two! Tomorrow morning, I am starting a 30-day challenge and this is my pledge to focus on my Miracle Morning practice every morning for the next 30 days. Wish me luck! I’ve partnered with the lovely people at @lumie.lights to give away a Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 to one of my Instagram followers... and we have a winner ! Congratulations @anyasargent! (Picked randomly with Comment Picker). Check your messages. The alarm clock actually mimics the light and colour of a real sunrise so when you open your eyes, you feel truly awake and refreshed. ****To enter, just like this picture, follow me @lecoindemel as well as @lumie.lights & tag a friend. UK entrants only.**** You can enter as many times as you want. Just tag a different friend every time! This giveaway is in no way endorsed by Instagram. One winner will be chosen at random to receive one Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 (RRP £90). The winner will be tagged on the original photo and will be sent a DM. They will have 2 days to reply with their address. No cash alternative. Ends Sunday 11th November 2018 at 11.59 p.m. UK time. Disclosure: I was sent a Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 free of charge for my best friend’s birthday (and she loves it!).
