Will you discover your inner artist at our next Art & Wine night at Kspace? Many children love Adam’s Art Class at Kspace. And last Friday parents could also experience another great Art Class from our brilliant Art Teacher Adam Bowden. Monet’s pond was the inspiration for the evening and Adam guided everyone through techniques and tricks needed to create a Monet inspired masterpiece. Together with sdrinks and snacks everybody had a great time together and enjoyed painting a lot. Look at the wonderful paintings everyone made! Fun fact: Did you know there is a pond in Japan that looks just like “Water Lilies” picture by the French Impressionist Monet? The pond in Gifu prefecture is now known as “Monet’s Pond”.
What can you see? ‘Brown Bear Brown Bear What Can You See’, written and illustrated by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle,is a children’s classic which our Lower School have been enjoying all week. They children absolutely loved making these mini viewers in craft today and spent much of their mingling time using them to ask their friends “What can you see?”. The colourful book together with the craft were a great way to help toddlers associate colors and meanings to objects. #kindergarten #インターナショナルスクール #internationalschool #tokyo #preschool #tokyowithkids #Tokyofamilies #Kspace #Internationalschooltokyo #kokomo #ericcale #brownbear #whatdoyousee

Because it was such a wonderful day: a throwback to our All School Family Picnic! Did you enjoy as much as we did? Have a great Sunday ☀️
Our Planet Earth is a true artwork, so beautiful with all the different shades of blue and green. Today the Butterflies learnt about the colours of our home planet and we learnt that green represents the continents/land and that blue represents the oceans. We then created our large scale planet Earth using blue and green bottle caps. Once we arrived in Space, we discovered that there is no gravity in space and that astronauts are floating around in their space stations. We gathered around the table, and got ready for our Gravity Art. We hung paper around the border of the table, used droppers to put paint on it, and watched the paint slowly dribble down the paper all the way to the ground.
Do you still write letters? Our Super Bugs do! The children have been learning about different types of communication and have written Pen-Pal letters to a school in London to make new friends, learn more about other countries and life-styles and improve writing skills. Obviously, it's much more fun to practice writing to a peer as opposed to writing for the teacher! After writing, the Super Bugs took a visit to Shirokanedai Post Office to post their Pen-Pal letters. They learnt how to send packages in Japanese and English and made their own post office counter to practice speaking in character. #kindergarten #インターナショナルスクール #internationalschool #tokyo #preschool #tokyowithkids #Tokyofamilies #Kspace #Internationalschooltokyo #superbugs #penpall #writingletters
‘Star sailors’ at work at Kspace’s astronauts training center! Did you know the word astronaut is Greek for ‘Star Sailor’? Our Butterfly class have become space explorers during this month’s ‘Intergalactic Space’ theme. The children are aware of things like rockets, stars, and astronauts, so it is a great time to explore and try to understand what lays beyond our beautiful blue sky as we travel into space! This theme is a great mix of art and science, encouraging the children’s creativity and also teaching them some basic science concepts relating to space, the stars and the planets. Here our class enjoyed moving round sensory and motor skill stations, testing their skills with a number of space themed challenges, like gravity experiments and making moon craters.
What a fantastic day we had Saturday at our community picnic. Perfect weather and fabulous enthusiasm all forged together to create an explosively good time! We had about 300 participants, almost all of our international schoolers were with us, and so many children from all programmes and alums too. In the park we created a powerful force and happy group of people! And on top of that we raised a massive 438,600 yen for our charities Peace Boat Japan, Civic Force Japan and ‘Leimond Omi Nursery’ (レイモンド淡海保育園) in Otsu, Shiga. Thank you all for yourgenerous donations! Thank you all for coming and we hope you enjoyed your time with us and have a look at all the happy photos and videos on our member space!
Happy Mother’s Day today (母の日, haha no hi)! Did you receive your child’s Mother’s Day gift? The children of all classes did their very best to make their special Mother’s Day artwork to show how much they love their mummies! Celebrate the gift of motherhood and every moment with your children!
We are all extremely saddened by the terrible news of the death of two nursery school students this week. As you may have seen in the media, two tiny infants attending ‘Leimond Omi Nursery’ (レイモンド淡海保育園) in Otsu, Shiga, were killed in a car collision. More are injured and hospitalised, including their teachers. Because of this terrible news, we have made a school wide decision to collect money for Leimond Omi Nursery. During our charity picnic 30% of all funds raised will be set aside for this (Civic Force Japan and Peace Boat Japan will receive the rest of the donations we raised during the charity events). So, join our special Mothers’ day picnic this Saturday May 11th, and we encourage you all to enjoy every moment with your children. Celebrate the gift of motherhood with us, and in turn let’s reach out and offer our thoughts and well wishes to the parents and staff of Leimond Omi Nursery.
Run Bugs run! Today our Big Bug and Super Bug students had a great active morning. In sunny Donguri Park, next to our school, all of the Bugs did a Sponsored Fun Run for charity. This was in association with the wonderful upcoming Kspace picnic on the 11th. Cheered by their teachers and friends, the little marathon runners did their best running laps around the park in the fresh outside air. The children got a strong sense of pride knowing that they were supporting a great set of charities....and had a healthy fun time in doing so!

Nothing beats dancing in front of a crowd at a great sunny festival! On Sunday, two of our Hip Hop classes performed at the African American Caribbean Golden Week Festa in Tokyo. Together with our great Hip-Hop teacher Yinka, the children made a cool choreography and practiced for weeks. The performance at the festival was amazing and the students had so much fun on stage! They develop coordination, body awareness, self-esteem and confidence. Learn the fundamental Hip-Hop moves including basic body isolations, precision, performance skills and choreography. This class is enjoyed by boys and girls, beginners and advanced dancers LOVE the content! Join us next time and dance, dance, dance! https://www.kspacetokyo.org/main/afterschool/dance-hiphop.php
🎏Happy Children's Day (こどもの日 Kodomo no Hi) today!🎏 This Japanese national holiday takes place annually on May 5th. And it is a day set aside to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness. On this day, families raise the carp-shaped koinobori flags (carp because of the Chinese legend that a carp that swims upstream becomes a dragon and flies to Heaven and the way the flags blow in the wind looks like they are swimming), with one carp for the father, one for the mother, and one carp for each child (traditionally each son). At Kspace it is Children’s day every day! Did you know the ‘K’ in our name represents kids, kinder and kodomo. It’s amazing how the word for children starts with a ‘K’ in so many languages!
A wonderful spring day today, so a good time to look back at one of our spring events we had during Easter. Big Bugs enjoyed a fantastic art afternoon with a guest art teacher, to celebrate Easter. They created a large Easter bunny mural using different artistic techniques. The children loved getting messy and working as a team to create a special mural. It looks so cute and fluffy, good job little artists!
Wat is your Super Power? Last Thursday the Big Bugs completed their Superheroes theme with a real Super Hero’s show. The super powers of the Big Bugs Superheroes were running very fast, being super flexible, super reading and even flying! During the show our Superheroes found out that the most important super power of all was ‘being Super Kind’! Throughout this theme, all the children have worked incredibly hard, exploring what it means to be a superhero and demonstrating their independent writing. The children performed with improved confidence, cooperation, focus and resilience and it turned out to be another fantastic show! Well done all you brave Superheroes!
Art is so much more than painting alone. Adam's art class has seen some impressive 3D creations recently! The process started with a single continuous black line on white paper but transformed into an amazing sculpture after a number of steps, artistic interpretation and a fair share of concentration and patience. Remember, at Art Class you cannot make any mistakes, well done young artists! Do you like jelly? Jiggling jelly sensory play with our little ones at our Caterpillar class. By singing the jelly and jam song and touching and feeling the letter 'j' the children learned about the ‘j’ sound.
