"Whenever this issue of compensatory or preferential treatment for the Negro is raised, some of our friends recoil in horror. The Negro should be granted equality, they agree, but he should ask for nothing more. On the surface, this appears reasonable, but it is not realistic. For it is obvious that if a man enters the starting line of a race three hundred years after another man, the first would have to perform some incredible feat in order to catch up."
Amy made this in 3 hours. HOW. The past seven days have been a carnival of human bodies showing off while I basically just stand there with my mouth slightly open.
Don Pettit, currently the oldest active astronaut, designed these space cups over a few different trips to space, and now casts and fires them for fellow astronauts. They’re the only nasa approved open-top cups, keeping liquid in and allowing pouring in zero gravity through fluid dynamics instead of gravity. 🤯 #nasa
absolutely nothing like getting brutally roasted by a 9 year old to knock you right off a tree
end of era at penn station. @mattyglesias gave me a tip on how to skip the lines for the train in 2014, and I’ve been riding the train a lot in those years. I’ve been going to DC a lot less lately as “explained” dominated so much of my 2018, and many of my coworkers in DC decided to move north. so the crucial 80s era schedule monitor missing in the photo won’t affect me quite as much anymore. “Explained” was just renewed, a baby is on the way, another big YouTube Originals show will make it harder than ever to see my friends down here in DC. But know that I miss you, I love you, and I hope I get to come down and hang out with you again soon. Even if I have to wait in the train line now.
the season finale of Explained publishes at midnight PST. Music, explained. It features @tokimonsta, the latest research on the neuroscience of music, narration by @carlyraejepsen, and this rad shot. making this show has been a dream and not only is it informing people, it’s opened so many doors for so many people. this show not only had a first time showrunner in @clarenceg, it put 12 people who hadn’t ever directed/produced for TV in that role for the first time ever — including for me on two episodes. and what’s more, we’re just getting started since you should already know vox video is magic. so many thanks to the talented people that made the show, and to the incredible supportive folks at Netflix and Vox Media that made it possible.
