A little over five years ago, my dad was diagnosed with cancer. A little over 24 hours ago, he was deemed cancer free. Thank you to my awesome friends and coworkers who helped me board a plane to surprise my parents last night. It’s been the best kind of sigh of relief.
I deactivated Instagram for a week and learned a lot about the people around me IRL instead of their social media presence (it was quite nice). I also accidentally reactivated my account earlier than I’d have liked. And I developed zits; lots of chin-zits. And I did my first video shoot for New Balance! And I was invited to decorate a Christmas tree, which was a gesture that really meant a lot! And I overthought a lot of things! And I made an appointment for my first therapy session! Anyway, I’m not sure yet how I want Instagram to fit into my life and my mental health, but while I’m here I figured I’d share all of this. And this photo from the video shoot today. It was good.
Me, standing on a bus at the start line of the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon, about to have chills down my spine as I watch over 50,000 runners begin their journey. @joeshayne, @jessmovold, @iamfranciscob, @mackexilus, @isaacqgriv — you are all strong, inspiring, incredible athletes with the largest hearts and the kindest souls. @ernorsen, @tor.arnold, and @laureneb5: your dedication and months of hard work has all paid off. Times Square, taxi cabs, and all of NYC shines with your brilliant creativity and talent. And of course, dream team @laurentaylorriker, @britdicap, @ange1515, and @ianfitzpatrick, your patience, endless support, and willingness to put me on such a large project so quickly has really meant so much! You are all actually the best and I’m so blessed to be a part of the team. NYC, you’re great.
I’m standing in Times Square and that big sign behind me is labeled as “ABCSupersign_TimesSquareScreen_Final” on my computer. • Thank you @ernorsen, @tor.arnold, and @laureneb5 for letting me join your project, add a little animation, and reformat all of the hard, hard, work that you did. • World, check out the MANY New Balance TCS New York City Marathon billboards all around TIMES SQUARE (!) and the JAVITS CENTER (!)
It’s not a pretty photo, but it was taken this morning while I was waiting in line to VOTE YES ON 3.
Every year we buy pineapples on Kauai to carry with us back to the mainland and every year I take a photo in this pineapple and my mom and I have matching pineapple tattoos but my favorite round food item is a potato.
