You wouldn’t believe it if I told you, but this is from atop a mountain of trash. The Children of the slums of Mombasa, Kenya play atop sewage, broken bottles, and shredded metal. The houses in the bottom of the photo are made from an assortment of clay, stick, and sheet metal, and are so small you wouldn’t use them for a bathroom. And yet every night, they look at some of the most beautiful sunsets known to man. Is that a fair trade? Is posting a photo on the beauty what it takes to draw attention to the ugly? Maybe, but it’s time to have a little perspective on what goes on around here, and think about something bigger.
