Yesterday, I was asked, “What’s so special about THIS hedgehog? Why do you take her everywhere?” I didnt entirely know how to respond. I had to think on it. Fox, as you all know, had a rough first year of life. When she was dropped off, I knew, despite her injury and rancid, rotten smell, she was going to be mine. I knew IMMEDIATELY that she was my baby. For two weeks, we treated her injuries with antibiotics until we were able to take her to the vet. I fed her almost daily with a few spoonfuls of wet cat food and water. I watched her thrive and decline (it was quite the roller coaster of healing). Her first night, she bit me and another gal, but I still loved her to bits. I cried for her. I loved on her. When I brought her home, I fed her daily with a syringe until she was willing to eat on her own. She stole my heart so quickly. Even in pain, she wanted a snuggle. I can’t really explain a “heart hog” to someone who doesn’t understand, but that’s what she is. Love this little hoggo to bits! #foxhedgie #foxtravels
Well, this little hedgehog’s bucket list is almost complete! 😆 Fox has: • been adopted • gone under the knife in a life-saving surgery • met hundreds upon hundreds of people • been on TWO 15 hour road-trips • been on three ferries • been at the top of a mountain • been on the ocean • walked the beach near sea lions • been noticed by a news reporter, who wanted to do a story on her (Vancouver Island) • been on two city trains • been to the “Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth” (Calgary Stampede—had no arrangements for the day, so we carried her around in my purse) • BEEN TO A CONCERT! (In my purse) Last night was surreal. It was such an incredible experience, watching @walkofftheearth perform. For it being my first concert, it was AWESOME! @sarahblackwoodmusic @luminati @walkoffmarshall @walkofftaylor @joelcassady #walkofftheearth #walkofftheearthlive #foxhedgie #foxtravels
Little miss Sunshine ☀️ We made it through the night! We ended up keeping Fox in the truck to avoid a hibernation attempt. When I woke her up, she seemed annoyed, which means she had a good sleep. Not sure of what our plan is with Fox, but Logan, Sophie and I will be headed to the stampede. Any of our followers attending today? Feel free to DM me and maybe we can meet you! #foxhedgie #foxtravels
Happy Canada Day! I am proud to be a Canadian. I am happy to live in a country where I am able to celebrate it, and the wonderful things it’s accomplished. I love being Canadian. What are you guys doing to celebrate today? I unfortunately work, but we will be attending the annual fireworks show and event tonight when I am off. #MischiefHedgie #CanadaDay #🇨🇦 #Canada #Canadian #ProudCanadian #🇨🇦🍁 #CanadaDay2018 #CelebrateCanada #HappyBirthdayCanada #CanadianHedgehog
My brave, sweet, precious little girl. Fox is my favourite hog. She is my heart hog. I have such a ridiculous bond with her, it’s crazy! I am so thankful for her cute little presence!! She is the CUTEST little hog on the planet 😋 I still love all of my other hogs, but Fox has and always will have a very special place in my heart. 💗 she brightens my day. She helps me to get up on downer days. If I’m having a bad day, her snuggles always help. Love my little Foxy poo 😍 #foxhedgie #foxtravels ETA: The snow was added for effect. It was sprinkling when I took this photo, but it was still warm enough to take Fox out. This was taken on our road trip to the island in May. Please don’t take your hogs out when it is actually snowing. It could cause them to go into shock by going from cold to warm temps in such a short amount of time.
She took over TOT last week for her teeth, but what about that long, graceful tongue of hers? Happy #tot #tongueouttuesday! QOTD: What is your LEAST favourite taste? Y’all, I’m so picky when it comes to food. I am so darn picky. I HATE so many foods. But... # 1? Coleslaw. Yuck. That stuff should not exist. #elevenhedgie
Today was a fun and eventful day. First, Logan and I took Duke to Logan’s sister’s place. He gets along well with the dogs there, so it’s really good socializing for him. Then, we went to a man-made beach about twenty minutes away, and we brought Fox with us. Chances are, you saw the video already, but I’m posting it on here, too. As some of you know, Fox is a major mama suck. She loves her human mama. Anyway, when on the ground, Fox will often follow me wherever I walk. It’s adorable. When on our vacation, I brought Fox with us to the beach. It was the ocean so she never went in the water. But, she did enjoy it. This is why I brought her today. Well, on the beach today, we walked in the sand. She followed me, like usual. Eventually, I started backing into the water. Fox surprisingly kept following me. So I backed up even more. Before I knew it, she was swimming. I just HAD to take a video of it! And I actually pulled her out before the video was over, but I cut the video. Please note that she came into the water with me erring on the side of caution. She was consistently watched and not for a second did I look away. She was not panicking. She made the choice to come into the water, and seemed to enjoy herself. I was NOT expecting her to swim at all, and with this, I do NOT recommend you take your hog and dump it in some water. There are many risks with water and hedgehogs. Not all will have this instinct. I have never seen one swim in the twelve that I have owned. Fox is extremely loved. She is, in all honesty, my favourite hedgehog, and I would not intentionally place her in harm’s way. Please do not do this with your hogs. If you do, don’t always expect them to swim. Always be cautious when doing anything involving your pet. Logan asked me to tell you all: the water was warm, so she didn’t get cold. It was +24*C with no breeze. She was immediately placed into her bag to rest, so there was no chance of cold. And, the park rangers were so confused about her. “No pets allowed” but they said to me, “Well, we don’t really know what to say about a hedgehog...” #foxhedgie #foxtravels
