Yesterday we celebrated the launch of @magnusfaviken’s latest bible ‘The Nordic Baking Book’ which has around 5 recipes for buns with 15 variations. All I know is this bun right here was one of the most delicious I have ever tried and I was lucky enough to blag a few to take home. I loved the chat between Magnus + Stephen Harris @sportsmankent and couldn’t agree more about the beauty of flour and yeast. Our current obsession with gluten free baked goods and using sourdough as a starter for everything is a bit mad. Everything has a place but I am more than happy to celebrate the more gentle combination of good gluten and yeast. Bring on the buns. I cannot wait to get baking.
It's the final instalment of my team up with the brilliant guys at @coopukfood and we're going out on one of my favourite baked goods: Sourdough. I'm a big fan and their Irresistible Sourdough is fabulous, it is handmade using an exclusive 18 hour fermented natural starter dough, slowly proven and baked for an open texture. And because it is Danish week I used it to make open sandwiches for our lunch yesterday, and I’ll make them as a snack during the show later (sandwiches have to be one of my favourite foods. Is that sad?). Smoked Salmon that has been gently smoked over beech and oak woodchips for ten hours, giving it a smoky taste and succulent texture (with cream cheese, of course). Free range eggs. Sliced British beef and horseradish sauce. All from Co-op. I've loved working with the Co-op team, everything I've had the privilege to taste and play with has been delicious and I've really enjoyed learning about how it is all made. I hope you've enjoyed following along too. Happy Bake Off Tuesday all. x #British #Signaturechallenge #GBBO #Bakeoff #Danishweek #Ad
Last week @jennifer.earle + I held a supper (brunch) club for @tommys_thebabycharity to celebrate the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week. Well I can confirm that we raised a whopping £2531.95p! This is HUGE for a supper club. And it’s all because of you lot. Those of you who donated produce, time, those who came and those of you who bought raffle tickets. I’ve struggled this week, griefs a bitch and I miss my boy but I tell you something I’m over the moon that we’ve been able to do this in his memory. So from the bottom of my heart - thank you.
• wave of light • I should’ve posted this earlier in the day for those of you ahead of us, but at 7pm tonight please light a candle wherever you are in the world to create a wave of light for all the babies gone too soon. This is for Archie and all his little pals, for which he has many. Our perfect little boy, our hearts hurt for you. And for Fifi, who should be celebrating her 7th birthday today. This is for all the babes and children. Love to you all as another BLAW draws to an end. X
So glad we donned our wellies and rain coats and made it to @fortyhall farmers market this morning. Stunning produce, the nicest people and Persephone learnt a new word whilst wandering around the farm - ‘geeeese geeeese!’. Weve come away with runner beans, potatoes, @holtwhitesbakery bread and their ridiculous good sausage rolls for lunch. Oh and wine made from grapes grown on the farm. @foodgatherer you are brilliant, always love seeing you. Happy rainy Sunday all. X
On the plus side I am thrilled that Baby Loss Awareness Week is receiving so much coverage + publicity, we are slowly breaking the taboo around miscarriage, stillbirth + neonatal death. However I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t hit me hard this year. Not sure why now more than others, it’s my 5th BLAW after all but this ones been tough. So I’m just going to leave this stunning rainbow cake here (by the very talented @mylittlecaketin) and am sending love to everyone who’s heart is a little sorer than normal right now. And because this cake represents me and my heart. Full of hope + love, with the sweetest little ‘A’ always there.
• roast pumpkin, coconut + noodle soup • I’ve been eating a lot of crap lately to get through a busy time, not enough fruit + veg. So last night I roasted a load of spiced pumpkin and blitzed it with coconut milk. Today I’ve finished it with tonnes of lime, added noodles, chilli oil, kimchi + edible flowers on top (because, well I’m worth it. And they’re left over from the supper club). Feel like a right snail today.
• Petalon x Tommy’s • To celebrate Baby Loss Awareness week the wonderful guys at @petalon_flowers have created a bunch called the ‘Archie + Orla’ after both mine + @from_the_other_chair’s much missed babies. To give you a quick run down, every week Petalon create 2 bunches which you can have delivered anywhere in the UK. This is one of the beautiful bunches, in the @tommys_thebabycharity’s colours. And for every bunch that is purchased £1 will be donated to Tommy’s. So if you are sending flowers this week - and who doesn’t love flowers? - then check out @petalon_flowers and you’ll be helping a charity very close to many peoples hearts. To quote the Petalon website: ‘For Archie, for Orla and for all the babies who died too soon and for their parents who will always love them, this bunch is for you’. Thank you Florence for honouring our babies. Breaks and fills my heart. X #babylossawarenessweek #tommysbabycharity @tommys_thebabycharity
So. Much. Food! Even more generous donations from @nordicwareuk for the tins, @goodthingsbrewingco, @chase_distillery for the beer and gin. @gollygoshingtons, @vintagebooks, @taste_tripper, @jennifer.earle, @hotelchocolat and everyone who donated for our raffle. Having so much donated meant more pennies are going to @tommys_thebabycharity ❤️ And BIG BIG BIG thank you to @thegentlemenbaristas for letting us using their stunning space, kitchen, everything. The nicest guys. We can’t thank you enough. And @jerwood_space, what a place! That’s it for now. I’m getting a take away and chucking my slippers on. X
