A heavenly lunch today at @oliahercules + @joe_woodhouse’s home. Olia made flavoursome broth with sorrel + prawns, a delicious veggie curry, with seared beef on the side (in a lip smacking Thai dressing), and Joe made a delicious apple crumble but without an oven. The nuggets of butterscotch were dreamy! As was the vacherin and wine after. What a fantastic, perfect Sunday with the loveliest family. Sasha we’ll be taking you up on baby sitting.
And the winner is... EDIT (because the original winner didn’t live in the UK 💔 sorry Rose) So thanks to having barely any WiFi yesterday (well done O2) I delayed the @pipersfarm Christmas dinner draw till this morning. I used an online number generator and can confirm that the winner is @oldfarmcottage! Well done Lynda! I’ll send you a message shortly to arrange. And thank you to EVERYONE who entered! I loved reading all your cocktails and drinks, made me laugh, and also realise how much I need to up my Christmas drink game! I do love a mulled anything and pomegranates on everything. And even a cheeky egg nog. Happy weekend all. X 📷 by @laurajayneedwards x
Christmas menu planning, I love a terrine. (I wrote and made this beauty for Jamie Mag many moons ago). On a side note if you haven’t entered my competition to win your Christmas meat check out my previous post. I’m loving everyone’s Christmas Day drinks! So much thought involved, I really need to up my game! 📷 by the gorgeous @laurajayneedwards.
• win a free range Christmas dinner • So I’ve teamed up with the inspiring guys at @pipersfarm to bring one of my lucky followers amazing meat on Christmas Day. The winner will win: properly free range simplest turkey with apricot + hazelnut stuffing for 6 people, 8 x saddleback pork sausages wrapped in bacon + properly free range pure turkey stock to make killer gravy. I’ve tried their turkey and it is absolutely delicious. Whoever wins this is in for a treat. All you have to do is: - follow me (and like this post) - follow @pipersfarm - comment below with your favourite Christmas tipple (because, why not? Let’s get in the spirit!). Unfortunately it’s for UK people only and there are some T+C’s (check the Pipers Farm website for details). It’s my first time doing one of these and I am VERY excited. I’ll pick the winner at random tomorrow night (7pm).
Bergamot loukoumia. A sweet treat made in the village my paternal bapou comes from in Cyprus. Snowy, citrusy, so silky they melt in the mouth - I’ve never thought about it before but they do feel pretty festive. There are mounds of them in my kitchen at the moment in preparation for Christmas. Every time I give them a turn in their snowy coating I pop one in my mouth for QC. Girls got to do what a girls got to do. Recipe will be in Taverna next year. #TavernaGH
Christmas gift making has been put on hold. Baby picked up another bug, seriously I swear they all just pass germs back and forth?! Poor thing. Raging fever yesterday, all the cuddles - and a lot of Pingu. Daydreaming of my weekend get away with my ma. Cotswolds we’ll be back soon.
• crab apple tart and a hazelnut cake with quince • This weekend I took my mum to @thyme.england to celebrate a special birthday whilst also trying their new restaurant @ox.barn. It is only 2 weeks old but what a sensation, @hibbert.charlie is smashing it. The most delicious, seasonal, homegrown food, fantastic service in a truly stunning setting. We feasted on house pickles, soused mackerel, crab salad, a potato pavé that was a celebration of the impressive garden there, as well as these heavenly puds. The vibe in the restaurant last night was ace, and we are already plotting our return. Thank you for being the hostess with the mostest @mollytaithyland. And lovely to hang out @oliahercules and @joe_woodhouse. X
• spiced pumpkin, maple + chocolate loaf • The only sweetest in this damp, rich loaf is from a little maple and the cooked puréed pumpkin or squash. Developed in an attempt to bake something for Persephone that isn’t laced with sugar. It also contains wholemeal flour, 1/2kg of veg and is insanely easy (it also keeps really well). This months @farmdrop blog post, link in my bio.
