NOGI at Eliteteam Monterey has turned into quite the event. . . NOGI is always uncomfortable for people at first but i feel it is good for you to practice grappling without the GI. It only makes you better at Jiu-Jitsu and mixes things up abit! . . Duck unders and broomsticks all around the room! . . . 🤙
Grip breaking. . . The skill of breaking grips is vital not just with the Gi but without the Gi also. . . Creating a grip on your training partner give you the opportunity to control enough to connect techniques together. . Takedowns, sweeps, and submissions mostly start by establishing a grip on your opponent. . . Learning to break grips is a huge part of a Jiujitsu practitioner’s arsenal. 🦖
Some work from this weekend. . . My friend mark and I having fun. . . Here I use butterfly guard to get into the legs. . . ✊️
Today’s BJJ training schedule. . No beginners BJJ today but we will still have open mat for anyone wanting to get some rounds in . . . Check in with coach brain if you are new to the gym 🤘
Come train at the only academy in the area with a full training schedule. . . Mat time is everything when it comes to building your Jiu-Jitsu knowledge. . . Eliteteam Monterey has 3 black belts, multiple brown and purple belts. . . We are only getting better and there’s no stopping us !! . ✊️

That NOGI Wednesday feel. . . Making the journey to the gym to work on yourself. . . Jiu-Jitsu has always been about self improvement. . . See you in class✊️
Last day of NOGI for the week. . . We’ve been building on the Kimura all week. Using the Kimura to connect other positions together. Mainly the back. . . See you all tomorrow for GI BJJ at 6AM ✊️
Super Mario shirts on NOGI days. . . Here Makenize is practicing her triangles on Milly . . The youth BJJ program is growing and it’s a beautiful thing❤️ . .
Lunch time class is starting to blow up! . . It’s nice and sunny out the doors are open music is on! . . Kimura is the word of the day! . . See you for kids class ✊️
🔥Saturday Morning Beginners Jiujitsu was centered around the Kimura today. . . Using the Kimura as not just a submission but as a pivot point into other positions. . . we talked about Kimuras from the closed guard and also from side mount. . . Controlling your training partners elbow and being able to shift your body weight around was stressed a lot in these techniques. . . With leverage and proper body mechanics you’re able to get the tap or the break. . . Great work today everyone ✊️
The brother in law had some questions about Jiu-Jitsu so...ya know we went to the ground. . . Going over some critical back control concepts. . Controlling the back by merely thinking “seatbelt control” won’t cut it anymore. . . Your ability to take their limbs away before you choke them will get you a lot farther. . . 🤭
Also no kids class today & Evening class will be taught by Coach Alder 6:30-8PM . . . Come train!
So legit seeing students take their Jiu-Jitsu and train while they’re on vacation. . . .
Wednesday’s NOGI class. . . What separates a good grappler from a great grappler is a great grappler has more positional knowledge. They’re more comfortable in the situations that they get put in. They understand how to limit movement and set techniques up to achieve submissions. . . Your ability to control your body will then transfer to your ability to control your training partners body. . . I stress the importance of Drills, a lot of Jiu-Jitsu is feeling and drills help you feel the movement and better understands the body Mechanics. . . “ where do your arms need to be and where do your legs need to be?” . . Thank you everyone for your hard work ✊️
🤯Jiujitsu is so much more then a Martial Art. . . It’s community, it’s friends, it’s family. . . Learning to move your body and growing as a person while you practice and refine techniques that become part of you. . . You will not be the same after Jiu-Jitsu 🤙
@thekoffeekrew has been One of the coolest things I’ve had the privilege of being involved with since moving to Monterey. . . I left my JiuJitsu family and branched out. I’m lucky to have been excepted into another while simultaneously growing my own. . . . Jiujitsu is so much more than a martial art. 🤙
