Thanks to the re-edit team of @hifisean and @yamwho who took a newly found 40 year old lost 1/4 tape and brought REACHIN to number 4 in the @traxsource top disco soul chart. Thanks to the many DJs who are giving it the love and also to my co-writers Tony Carbone and Larry Woo who I’m sure forgot about this song long ago. Lastly RIP to Minnie Gardner, the great lead singer who rocked the vocal many years ago. Great disco never does y’all
Happy to be able to announce that’ll I’ll be opening these 4 gigs next January and that I’ll most definitely have many surprises for y’all. Really looking forward to this.
Was really sad to hear of the passing of the great man and musician Mac Rebennack Aka Dr John. I had been an early fan of his rollicking piano playing and his voice and lyrics were among the best. He leaves an amazing catalogue of music - of course the walk on gilded splinter/right place era was amongst the funkiest music ever laid to wax , but he kept hitting till the end. He was also an absolutely a one of a kind dude and I feel lucky that we had a chance to reconnect 6 years ago at the Sunshine Blues fest in Boca Raton- (yeah Boca got a blues festival!) I hadn’t seen the man in close to 30 years but he was supercool when I showed up with my journalist friend @realjohnhood in tow. We had a great chat about back in da days- my label streetwise had put out a Dr John record called Jet Set produced by Duke Bootee (Ed Fletcher, who wrote and rapped on grandmaster flashes the message). Macs manager #Bob Schwaid and I had been old friends so he was able to “convince”me to throw down for a video- and we had given him a nice advance on top! Regardless the video has to be seen and that made it onto MTV! (It includes a pre-stardom Gina gershon). After some chit chat Mac casually mentioned that he had been nominated for a Grammy, which excited me until he hit me with, ah yeh I already got about 8 of them. All was going fantastic until the fore-mentioned Mr hood started hitting the good Doc with questions about shall I say his early, less upstanding days. (I guess Mac hadn’t got the message that we had left re a hood interview for the miami new times). Wish I had a tape of their conversation. Whatever it all ended fine that night and left me with another great memory of the great man. RIP Mac
Hey y’all. Got a new booking agency @theunityagency led by @pablocontraband taking care of my gigs. (They also book @dr_packer and @late_nite_tuff_guy ) I’ve got lots of great new releases this summer and I’m ready to rock the disco tech exclusively playing my own productions and remixes, new and old. Promoters get ready.
A few shots from the string session with @lbizzu conducting a @patrickadamsproducer string arrangement for the next @rockersrevengeofficial single #allthatihavedone , a gospel disco classic coming out this summer. Check out our current traxsource smash #whataboutthepeople distributed on @newstatemusic
#tbt Strangely found this in my storage room today. I’m sure none of these numbers are active anymore, this is probably circa 82. ( if your numbers active on this, contact me and I’ll take this down!) What’s particularly weird is im cutting strings with @patrickadamsproducer and @leroy.burgess next week and their names and numbers magically appeared in this 35 year old phone book. Of course I don’t remember having their details and haven’t really been in touch in years other then contact thru Facebook recently. Some interesting names turn up on this first page. More to come.
Spent a very memorable day 3 years ago in LA at IMS, trying to interview the man director John Singleton- the day after prince passed away. For those of you who don’t know, John was a major prince fan and purple rain the biggest influence in him becoming a director. I didn’t really have to ask him many questions that day, but I did get to listen to him musing on prince and hear his fascinating story of his own journey of directing Boyz n the hood at 23 years old. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends. RIP
Great night last night @basementmiami playing studio 54 disco in the bowling alley with my private dancers @stephenwebsterjewellery @mrstephenwebster and @assiawebster. Saw this over 30 year old sticker for the first time courtesy of #benton who I spun with there. It adorned the 12 sleeve of my remix of tease me by the late great parliament/ funkadelic keyboard ace Junie Morrison. (Rip) engineered email@example.com the remix has aged well.
