[HERITAGE] • Yule House was built in 1932 and was designed by the Melbourne architectural firm Oakley & Parkes. • Constructed during the Depression, economy was a major influence on the design, which was a collaborative effort of Oakley, Stanley Parkes and their young team member Rae Featherstone. • It was the first commercial building in Australia to demonstrate the principles of the emerging Moderne style. This was to become the most fashionable commercial style for buildings such as department stores, cinemas and office blocks in the late 1930s. • Research source: Victorian Heritage Database Report • Pictures: 1.
