One of the wildest evenings in recent memory. It’s both humbling and mesmerizing to swim with crocodiles in the mangroves. The sky turning red, loud cracks of thunder, the first heavy drops of rain hitting the surface. Good buddy @paulnicklen is a few feet away to my left and all we can do is smile, ear to ear, and laugh. // A big part of the @sealegacy mission is to bring moments like this to people who may otherwise never dream of visiting a place as wild as Gardens of the Queen, Cuba... and appreciate its beauty. 8K Screen-grab on assignment with @sealegacy: @cristinamittermeier @paulnicklen @iankellett_story @samkretch @mdalio
Whenever we cast our cameras upon the voiceless, allowing beauty and grace to speak on their behalf, someone who would otherwise never journey to a place as wild as the open oceans, will now dream of it.
Wrapping up an amazing week of #sharks and #science here in San Salvador Island with @moorecharitable @ceibahamas @fiuseas @noaa @seabacon. Always good to be back in the #Bahamas with my finned friends. It’s an honor to document the tireless work of field biologists and help amplify their message. Looking forward to returning next month with @sealegacy @paulnicklen @cristinamittermeier @moorecharitable for an expedition to the southern keys. 🦈🦈🦈. Thanks for the help @swagsurfer15 🤙🏼
On Thanksgiving 2007 I quit my job and drove out to Bishop, CA to pursue a career in adventure photography. I was grinding hard for almost six years, working for @climbingmagazine, living in Eldorado Canyon, CO and (mostly) on the road. It wasn’t long before everything started making sense in my life and I was able to enjoy the journey while honing my craft. My life changed the day I clocked out. Ultimately my journey led me back to the oceans where i once studied and worked after college. But most of all, I realize now, it was a long crooked road to finding my true purpose. Its not a journey everyone can afford to take, but for those teetering on the edge...what are you waiting for??? @eaglecreek can help guide your way. Link in Bio. 🚐💨 #QuitYourJob #FindYourUnknown
I recently returned from an assignment for @natgeotravel documenting artists across Japan, Australia, Uzbekistan, US & France. One of my favorite moments was sharing an ancient tea ceremony with this young lady, Nagura-san, at her home in Tokyo. A true master of ceremonies, she slowly and silently performs each motion with absolute intent and precision. It felt like a social-media anti-drug and I left her house with a much-needed boost of human connectivity. @jlimpix @ianvaso
Excited to be arriving in San Salvador, Bahamas to document the marine conservation work being done here with great groups such @moorecharitable @fiuseas @ceibahamas @globalfinprint. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Caribbean over the years and San Sal always blows my mind with its rich coral walls and abundance of sharks and large gamefish. As always, it’s an honor to help push the tireless work of field biologists a little further into the light. 🌊☀️🦈. @sealegacy @seabacon @yannis_papastamatiou @eddbrooks #conservationfilmmaking
Of all the ways to say “hello”, I generally prefer this one. Intimate wildlife encounters are both exhilarating and immeasurably difficult to get. A little luck goes a long way. During a 2017 climbing expedition to Greenland, we encountered a curious polar bear from our zodiac boat. As it approached, I dunked my camera-housing in the frigid water as it took a dive, swam under our boat and away into the ice forever. And in the end, luck would have it 😉. @ladzinski @mikelibecki @ethan_pringle @sealegacy
