Before I had surgery walking short distances was very difficult. Now after the surgery and many months of therapy I can walk long distances and feel the strength building in my knee. I am able to return to cornhole competition pain free. I am building confidence each day and am close to being fully recovered. Thanks to all staff for their help and patience working with me.
So me being me, I slipped down a step earlier on today and have managed to sprain my ankle, aren’t I clever?! 🤕 Of course, I get home and look at what crystals I can use! So I’ve got some carnelian and fluorite on the go, as both of these are really good for joint pain and swelling, so I’ll be having both of these on my homemade pillow mountain to elevate my ankle on. There are a LOT of things I love about my job. ❤️❤️❤️ But today? I love it because it makes me do one of my FAVORITE pieces of advice: “Forget yourself and go to work.” (Bonus points if you can name who said that!! 😜😊❗️👇🏻) With my dad’s strokes, Blake’s ankle, and a BUSY toddler who requires LOTS of attention, it is EASY to forget about what makes ME happy. But my job makes me happy. And when I take the time to sit down, and do my work? I feel SOOOO much better. Inside and out. ❤️

Another tidbit from the panel Kelly @movensoar and I did... Let's say you sprained your ankle (not twisted or tweaked it but gave it a good one), or hurt your knee. You would be expected (or at least generally recommended) to go through a rehab program to help that injury resolve. Now let's say you have surgery for that injury (ahem meniscus or ACL anyone?), you're looking at 6-9 months to return to sport in some cases. Women grow babies for up to 9months, then they go through essentially an 800m sprint (fast labour <12 hours), a marathon (>12 hours), sometimes an elective surgery, and sometimes the run followed by an emergency surgery... delivering babies is no joke, it is hard work, and there are real impacts that, in some instances are life changing. Your doctor needs to know if something is killing you. Your physio needs to know if something is dysfunctional, over a variety of considerations, and your trainer needs to know your limitations and proper program management. Once swelling is down, and range of motion is back, we have to challenge the ankle in ranges that strengthen it where it is vulnerable (EX: In Plantarflexion). . ⬆️The video above is by NO means a comprehensive list, but should give you some ideas on how to increase proprioception and strengthen the fibularis muscles (on the outside of the ankle). . 1️⃣Elevated Diagonal Lunges 2️⃣Kettlebell Around the Worlds 3️⃣Fibularis Band Walks 4️⃣Ankle Inversion Side-Walks 5️⃣Catch and Throws 6️⃣1/4 Hop and Stops . Advanced Ankle Sprain Rehab Exercise 👊 . This is a fun exercise we’ve been getting some of our later stage ankle rehab patients doing that’s certainly more challenging and beneficial than your standard single leg balance ❗ . Reaching all the way to the ground will drastically challenge your centre of gravity, which makes it a lot more challenging than it looks ❕ . Here we had 2 sets of coloured cones, one closer and one slightly further away. Reach down and pick them up, one cone at a time of the same colour. Reverse the exercise and place them all down again. Then repeat with your other hand 🤗 . Great thing about this exercise is every time you reach down to pick up/put down a cone you are performing a modified single leg deadlift (16 of them in this case)… so it really gets the glutes firing as well! 🏋 . Give this one a go, the cones don’t necessarily have to be where we placed them. Mix it up and find new ways to challenge yourself! 💪💁
🔴Get Your Ankle Moving! ⏩👟 - Ep.28 [Ankle Series] . In our last Ankle post we talked about how one of the biggest errors in ankle sprain rehab is being TOO cautious 🚫. Within 48 hours of a mild ankle sprain we try to achieve as much range of motion 🔃within pain tolerance. Some ideas 💡 to do this: 🔶Assisted Dorsiflexion - The action of bringing the ankle up, is the motion most lost after sprain. Getting a towel or band, and assisting bringing that ankle up is useful 🔶Ankle ABC's or Circles - Drawing the alphabet or large circles with your foot is an engaging way to get more range. Focus on staying within a pain-free range and going slowly 🐢 🔶Band-Resisted Isometrics - without actually moving the joints, contract the muscles around the ankle, by gently resisting into a resistance band in different directions 🔄 (see video) ‼️Pay careful attention in plantarflexion (toes down) and Inversion (ankle turned in).
