Snakes are just wonderful to photograph with their patterns mixed with an intricate tiling of scales. You can also see a bit of his iridescence on his face and dorsal stripe. Not a rainbow boa by any means but still lovely! I would love to keep a rainbow boa, or even better yet (for me) a white lipped python 😍😍 #rakuballpython
Explorer 🌾 #rakuballpython ••••• It's always so strange to me that snakes are probably in my top 3 of favorite animals to keep. For a long time I admired them, but really didn't have an interest in keeping them. No particular reason why, I just never really thought of having one of my own. I believe it was Brian from SnakeBytesTv that really highlighted these animals for me (watched his videos for probably 4 years before getting a snake). He receives quite a bit of backlash now, a lot of with I can side with, but I likely wouldn't have any of my little noodles if it wasn't for his videos.
My prince on #tongueouttuesday ••••• Lately I have really grown to adore him. He is so gentle and tolerant. I'm going to be honest, ball pythons are definitely not a favorite species of mine. I'm not going to go into why, but I do love him. When I got him, I had intentions to breed him. If the right clown/het clown female came up then there is a small possibility I might but honestly ball pythons are so overbred that it's just flooded with them. Which means a lot of normals or common morph ball pythons are kinda left as unwanted or sold for cheap. When they are sold for cheap, often times they go to crap keepers and will not be provided the right care. Then you will find them on Kijiji or Craigslist living in horrible conditions, with stuck shed, RI, and in their own filth. I see it constantly (with Leo's and Beardies too). Raku has bred before by previous keepers and has fathered litters, so I am not trying to deprive him of his natural urges. But, with ball pythons flooding the market it just doesn't seem right for me personally to do (nothing against some of the awesome ball python breeders btw). #rakuballpython
In my dad's old camera bag from probably the 70's-80's ❤. My dad gave me all his old canon lenses and I have played around with them. They can't attach to my Canon, so I just free-lens them. They actually are pretty damn good lenses and so I have used them quite a bit the past couple days. #rakuballpython
I love how the light reflected back to create lipstick and blush on #rakuballpython 💄 •••••• Raku is in shed currently, so I had to dig through some older photos in order to post today. He will probably shed by Friday or Saturday, and I can't wait to get some new photos of the chunky monkey.
Raku in front of a painting that was painted by an elephant at our local zoo probably 20 years ago. Our zoo no longer has elephants, they were relocated probably about 5 years ago. We didn't pay for this, my dad worked at the zoo for 35 years (retired when I was maybe 12) and was good friends with the elephant keepers. #rakuballpython
Look at those scales 😍🔍! I currently sculpting Raku, and if I don't decide to scrap it I will share it on my story. Speaking of scales, NOT looking forward to sculpting them. I'm someone who gets way too obsessed with detail, so I know I will be sculpting each individual scale. Pray 4 me #rakuballpython
First day back at work today after the holidays 😬. Was kinda dreading it, but once I got there I realized how much I missed the kids (I work with kids)! Here is Mr. Raku, looking ultra-moody. I love to see his eyes. I prefer seeing ball pythons pupils, I never tend to gravitate to ones with dark eyes. It's funny, because I love Mexican black kingsnakes despite their dark eyes. With ball pythons, it's very much a necessity to have light eyes in order for me to want them in my collection. #rakuballpython
Today is a cold snowy morning. As much as I hate that it's snowing already, snow seems to make everything so quiet and serene. I was working this morning (work with kids), and it felt like the children and I were the only ones on earth. Even their giggles and babbling seemed more like whispers. #rakuballpython
I love all animals (and all, not like those people who say they do but only like the cute fluffy ones). But, my favorite animals I have ever kept are chickens. We recently got some more chicks (Bielefelders and BC Marans) and oh my gosh I am in love. They are in that preteen stage where they are awkward and half fluffy. We usually hatch out wheaten and blue wheaten Ameraucanas (pictured is my gorgeous blue wheaten roo who has the hens pull out his beard) but this year we just bought some as my mom is digging Bielefelders. These animals remind me more of dinosaurs than most reptiles (one of the many reasons I adore chickens). Little velociraptors 😖! #rakuballpython
So I may have gone to the reptile expo this past Sunday. That may have been a horrible thing when you have a snake addiction and spare enclosures. I may have gotten two more snakes. Luckily they were snake species and morphs I have been looking for for a long time. Unluckily for my wallet 😂. Giving them a couple more days to settle in unbothered by me before I share them. #rakuballpython
His tongue looks like lil legs walking 🚶, or perhaps a wishbone 😂. I love this big boy, despite how he totally wasted a frozen/thawed rat last week. I left it in for the night because he has been eating good, assuming it would be gone in the morning (he striked and constricted it too). Nope! The one time I don't check his cage in an hour to make sure he ate (I went to sleep), is the one time that I woke up to a lovely bloated stinky rat 😷. Nonetheless, he ate last night perfectly fine with no issues. Not sure what was the problem last week. I hear some stories of ball pythons going on really long food strikes, so I'm just lucky he eats 75% of the time. #rakuballpython
