This is amazing work for overall hip and ankle mobility. Then, depth-jump practice, working on proper torso & arm positioning during the descent, with correct force-dissipation and re-tensioning at the bottom of the landing. Next week we’ll be incorporating forward rolls into the landing to allow jumps from greater height. Active Recovery. . Sunday is often my favorite day of the week. I look forward to relaxing with my friends and family, planning my schedule for the week, and enjoying active recovery in the great outdoors. . Active recovery to me is a break for my CNS (central nervous system). Over the years I've learned the value in proper rest intervals between heavy compound lifts like deadlifts, squats, presses, and heavy chin-ups. Simply put, the body grows when it has adequate rest. . It was always hard for me to take a "rest day" out of sheer boredom. But I realized I could rest my body while still adding variety, skill work, and fun into my routine. . Having experimented with taking whole days off, I realized that my body didn't recover as well as when I would stay active on my off days. I'm a firm believer in "no days off" for this reason: active recovery in the form of low intensity aerobic training (like trail running), helps me to enhance blood flow and get rid of my tight muscles. . Not only the physical aspect, I focus my active recovery in parks, on the trails and mountains, and in new environments. I find that my breathing regulates and I get a healthy dose of vitamin D that helps me sleep and regulate my hormones. (Side note: for years I have given myself Vitamin D homework - at least 30-45 minutes in the sun with a large percentage of my skin exposed). . I'll follow up my hikes and trail runs with gentle stretching and inverted hanging at nighttime. Every night I also try and get 15-30 minutes of foam rolling while watching netflix. Day 6 of my CEU week Anatomy in Motion Day 4 OMG I GOT SHIFT PHASED!!! Yes this looks awkward but this feels like what my body has been craving for but couldn’t get there. So why am I in this “pose”? I’ll tell you a bit later… We started the class off with a sharing of experiences when we were being assessed by our partners yesterday and how it feels when we were put into motion. We start to talk about the honest relationship between the practitioner and the client. The language we use is so important. There’s no such thing as good and bad (insert body part) and when we hold a space to allow clients to be honest with what they’re feeling then we can gather more information to help them. Do you have clients that say “well…it’s not 100% but it’s better” and do you ever ask them “What does 100% feel like?” If you don’t ask, are you projecting what you think their 100% should be? Meet them where they’re at. Back to this “pose” in the picture. gait that you journey through very quickly and your weight is shifting to the other leg. So what I’m doing is a very exaggerated posture and it allows me to get into my “dark zone” a space I don’t know how to get to. What you’re currently looking at is my new found frontal plane movement. I was actually using more pelvic movement rather than hip movement. Boost your brain power and coordination! A 2015 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition showed that only 8 weeks of daily berry consumption increased cognitive function and increased the development of new brain cells in an area of the brain known as the Hippocampus. The Hippocampus is largely responsible for memory, emotions and regulating the effects of stress. Squat ➡️throw ➡️duck walk ➡️squat 💛 A little game to work with a commonly 'under utilised' movement option 👉the deep active squat (with active movement not just passive resting). ✌️ This movement potential has been an area of challenge for me for most of my life. To start with I couldn't squat past 90 degrees. I didn't think it was possible. I was just not a 'natural squatter'! ❌ The key to unlocking this pattern for me and my clients has been constant, regular and mindful movement choices (with a sprinkle of patience 😉). 🌀 Bodies are awesome!
