I am behind on everything... literally everything... but for her, the rest of the world can wait.❤️ Nothing on earth compares to sitting with her on my chest and breathing in her beautiful smell... I love that my whole hand cradles her head as I push into her delicious cheeks for a million kisses because you can never, NEVER stop at just one kiss. The days are flying by. Hailey will be 5 weeks tomorrow. FIVE!! Call me pathetic but I have so many moments where I actually shed a few tears at the thought of my baby growing up. I want her to be small enough for me to carry with her arms wrapped around my neck, head on my shoulder, feeling her whole little body snuggled into mine, knowing that in that moment she is as safe as she could possibly be. Being a mommy is the most beautiful, amazing, rewarding role but gosh it has so many bitter sweet moments. These moments won’t last forever. I remember so much of Otis’ infancy vividly. From the way he slept...to the way his face softened and glowed at the sight of me when he awoke. I remember the days...from hour to hour, all of the beautiful mundane. I remember it. I remember tiptoeing a certain way so as not to wake him from sleep. I remember the whole background story for every photograph I’ve taken of him. But...with Fern, certain spots are fuzzy. The days are fluid and intermixed in my brain. I find spots that are clear and brilliant...but I get vulnerable when I try to decipher the foggy bits. I don’t remember this photograph...I don’t remember the day. I believe she’s probably 5 months old...which means I was still wading through postpartum anxiety and depression. I had gone back to work and was experiencing bullying and isolation compounded by my postpartum vulnerability. It’s a curious thing to look back upon a time that was so dark and emotionally foggy...to see such light. I mean, look at my darling Fern’s eyes. They are a sea of hopefulness and light. I hope I saw it then. I must have seen it then, because I picked up the lens and pointed it in the direction of what I needed to see. Taking photographs is therapy for me. If my children grow to think that all I was doing was trying to compose a visual diary of perfection, they’ll be missing my heart entirely...because it has always been my means to cope. It is my attempt to cope with the farewell of each day...and my tool of seeing light in the darkness; and I’m so grateful for this photograph. My hallowed reminder that this is what healed me: this Light.
