I've been hair detoxing for almost a month using combinations of honey and apple cider vinegar, bentonite clay and sodium bicarbonate. It's a long frustrating process! On my mission to develop an all natural, PH balanced, gentle shampoo that works I came across an Indian recipe using shikaki, Reeth and Amla. I added camomile, fenugreek and Rosemary essential oil. I'm straining a few oils today and I'm completely taken by this beautiful St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) oil. I started it infusing back in July. There's lots of ways to infuse herbs in oils: heat, solar, cold in the dark. I've tried all these methods. I find that the oils I most enjoy and the ones that, for me, have the best effect, are the ones solar and cold infused. I also like to steep the herbs for several months before straining. St. John's Wort oil can be used as an herbal ally for many different reasons. To help relieve muscle and nerve pain, to help relax and uplift the mind and spirit, and to heal wounds and viruses that present on the skin (such as chicken pox and shingles...for viruses and the like you could also take an internal tincture) As I strained it I rubbed some into my hands and instantly felt at ease. These beauties were wild crafted this past holiday weekend. Ragweed, Goldenrod, and Passion Flower. Aren't they stunners!? 😍 I'll be using the first two for allergy relief and then the Passion Flower has been an amazing herbal ally for me. I struggle with anxiety and lots of circular thinking, where it feels like my brain can't be stopped. Passion Flower is such a huge help to calm my brain and body and help me relax and feel less anxious (also a fabulous ally for sleep...alone or together with some others...like Skullcap and California Poppy) I've been having such a beautiful time putting up plant medicine and creating new formulas for family and friends. I think the blissful autumnal like weather has been inspiring me (I know the heat will be back so I'm soaking it up). There is a small field in my parents neighborhood and I got to go and wildcraft there this afternoon. The majesty and glory of all the beautiful plants and buggy creatures were on display and it was a blessing to spend time with them. I was able to harvest Passion Flower, Rag Weed, and Golden Rod and make fresh medicine with them. I got to visit with many others and it was such a treat. When I saw Passion Flower I almost yelled, I was so excited to see her out and about. Psalm 96:11-12 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. I'm finally getting in a groove with Witches and Pagans: Women in European Folk Religion (by @maxdashu )There's soooo much information, and so much heavy language (like literal different languages...ancient languages....so much to sift through) I usually read quite quickly, but I find myself needing to go back and re-read paragraphs over and over again to make sure I understand it all. This is one of the next books I was planing to do a live review of...but it might be a while. I will say: I'm loving it so far and it's such an amazingly researched and scholarly book. So beautiful.
